Now one thing and probably the most important thing that you have not mentioned is was it planned or was it a mistake? Was it a rendevous or a moment of weakness. This makes all the difference in the world. This will also change the outcome in the end. An affair that is planned and goes on for a while will eventually end any relationship. A mistake will probably end most but if you get through to the other side (that is if you want to which it doesn't seem like to me) you can become stronger. You know from then on that you are prepared not to make the mistake again and the other half also knows that you really mean it too.
If it was planned do not prolong the inevitable. You got what you wanted.
