If McCain had won and the Repuiblicans had the majority.. ( Archived) (63)

Jul 6, 2009 9:13 PM CST If McCain had won and the Repuiblicans had the majority..
Would the problems facing the United States, been solved in the last 7 months? Would he have solved the financial crisis? Would he have prevented further the bailouts initiated by the Bush administration? Would his win have prevented unemployment from reaching 9.5% Would his win cause the North Korea immediately dismantled their nuclear programs, open up their borders, see the error of their ways and usher in a new Democratic age? Would his win cause Iran to dispose of their leader, and align with the west. Would his win have resulted in the immediate capture of Bin Ladin and the complete and immediate stomping out of the insurgents in Iraq? Would it have cause immediate democracy there too? And would all of this would have happened in the last 7 months?

Anyone else ever get that sinking feeling that if he did win...that the last 7 months would have been bliss and basically cause the US (and the rest of the world) would have made a complete 360 in the right direction. None of the stuff that we or the previous administration(s) did in the past would even matter.

I mean why put a time frame on it right?

McCain wasn't going to win even against Joe Biden. He was more democrat than republican and many republicans refused to vote for him under any circumstances.

It took us decades to get to this point. Many years of mistakes being made by the government, business and the people.

Not as much fun as blaiming it on who ever is in the White house or just got out is it gang?

Okay. But that still doesn't answer my question. You can insert any politician's name up there that isn't our current President really. Could you still answer my question?

The rain quit, but they are probably grazing.
I liked McCain better, but what we need is a real gogeter leader. Somebody who can draw support from the whole country, not just certain interest groups.bouquet

It all started with Abe Lincoln. If he didn't force the union on the south, the Federal Government would still be answering to the individual states as dictated in the constitution.

McCain had his interest groups also..so he would not have met your criteria.

Not sure if any politician is interest group free...

That is my exact take on some of the threads floating around in the CS politics forums regarding the current administration.

But I guess this is what a public forum is for..you know to speculate and what not.

Maybe I should have posted an anti Obama thread? confused

I have asked myself this question a few times in the last months.

Here are the differences had McCain won, I think.

McCain first promoted gov't loans to the failing companies. Regarding the second TARP package, he might have come back to that position of loans vs bailouts.

McCain would be more aggressive in Pakistan. He would have seen the opportunity to place US forces into the tribal area for a on the ground search for bin Laden.

Washington DC reform. The earmarks and the pork would have stopped.
McCain did not take a earmark in his lengthy term as US Senator.

No apology tour on the global scene. McCain might have made face to face apologies with leaders of foreign countries. But a stand up speech to millions...I doubt would have occurred.

He would not be talk nuc reduction with the Russians yet. Putin, a man that McCain does not trust is still running the gov't there.
He would not enter into disarmament talks with those he did not trust.

GITMO....GITMO stays. There would be no release for the GITMO detainees untill more resolution of the conflict with AlQeada had been met.

Air Force would not have buzzed NYC. Nancy Polosi would not have called the CIA liars. Bills in Congress would be read prior to be voted on. ACORN would have a FED Gov't investigation.

Iraq withdrawal date would remain unannouced. Btu McCain is to much of a military man, to leave 1000s of troops in the country.
Some withdrawal with a cooled Iraq would have occurred.

Sarah Palin would have announced her resignation as the VP.....after 2 and 1/2 months at the job......LOL.....

No matter who was elected...the battle was up hill!!! We got the right guy in office. He is a uniter and a go getter. I did like McCain, I don't think it would have been the end of the world if he got in, but I am happy he didn't. We need a peace maker and someone who is willing to step over party lines. Obama has done that and will continue to do so.
