It’s a bit related to that other thread, but I’m posting it here not to interfere with the lists people want to do.
I actually think that as long as you don’t make a big fuss, like splash out huge amounts of cash which will make people notice you, and you learn to live without certain things, it wouldn’t be very hard.
With disappear now, I mean not leave any trace at all. Not have any mail delivered, not have any bank account, no travels which involves scanning of passport, no renting or buying anything where it will require an ID, no credit cards, no address under your name.
I also think that you wouldn’t have to take of to central Botswana, some remote village in Mongolia or hide in Siberia. I think you could easily disappear in a big city, and even a small town.
What steps would be necessary, do you reckon?
Step 1: You would be allowed contact with family, but they could never be allowed to know where you are, or how to contact you. You would contact them. But how? A phone call can be traced, as can an email. A letter's postage stamp reveals where you're sending it from.

I could take the horses up in the mountains and totally disapear with no problem at all. Live off the land.

in reality it is very difficult to toataly disapear as you have stated, first you need photo id for most anything these days. the only way in a big city to do it is if you want to be homless. here in the states you cant even rent a place w/o it much less get a job. modern times have made it very hard for you move and not have the government knowing were you are. the new pasports, and enhanced drivers lic. here in the states from what I have heard even gave GPS chips in them, also your cell phone so they always know were you are.

It's interesting how a homeless can be lost from the map, but one with money with a lesser chance.
And if you don't own this film, you must! It's Dean Martin (singing) in a John Wayne film, Rio Bravo, and you should know who the young lad with the guitar is. He was very famous in your country.
Some of the best times in my life have been when I have completely disappeared. Of coarse I was not living in a city, town, or any populated area, but out in the wild. Its a pretty easy thing to do, but it requires a strength, and abilities, not likely to be found in an untrained person of the material world.
it is easier than you think, if you can live off the land, there are many places right here in the state that no man has set foot on, and you can live comfortable to.. a fellow went north cut his trees built his cabin close to a river he had everything he needed, he wasn't trying to hide made a documentary of his life, they made it a national reserve when he died. i thinkit would be harder to do in the city jmo
Going on somewhat of a tangent here...has anybody heard from that irish girl with hamster cheeks and who would write a blog a day...I miss her witty antics

You're not talking about that film Sean Penn directed, are you? Into the wild?
