tgwstw: I live with my two aunts, one is mentally disabled and the other physically. My sister does full time caring as honestly, aside from cooking meals I'd be fair useless. Along with my Dad they raised me but I still don't have the capability to look after their needs as my sister does. I admire any person that volunteers in such sectors, it is very testing.
I was involved in a group which fed the homeless in New York for a couple of years. I currently work full time with adults with Intellectual Disabilities so I dont have a lot of spare time anymore. I am however starting to do some Voluntary work with the elderly next week probably just about four hours a week.
Im actively involved in alot of community /voluntary work. I am founder member and treasurer of group that take a number of youth (over18) out to africa each year for 4 weeks to work in orphanages/schools/homes/building houses etc etc. We live in the communes etc to give the youth an idea of the conditions that these people have to endure on a daily basis. One in 4 have HIv/AIDs therefore their life expectancy is very short. At home im on the Board of Gov of local primary school for 16 years and founder member of playgroup where I am also treasurer. Also involved in alot of community work, therefore I feel my house is the local Citizens Advice Centre. At present Im organising the launch of a book on my late uncle who was SMA priest on the missions. So I dont have much free time at min, although after the launch on 20th August I hope to take wee break down south to relax.
