Because situations change in life of the things we discuss. The thread eventually gets buried & forgotten until someone inadvertantly resurrects the thread.
I don't blame the individual for resurrecting the thread because they are only offering their opinion of the situation at hand.
Does anyone else think that it would be a good idea for CS to allow the creator of a thread to have the option to lock it to prevent it from being bumped any further beyond the OP's original intent?
It would be good to be able to lock your own thread. Actually, it would probably save some work for the moderators when one's thread gets hijacked by trolls and/or slaughtered in discord the OP could nip it in the bud as soon as it gets out of control. The adverse side effect would be alot of repeated thread topics, as if they're aren't enough already simply because someone wants to comment on a locked thread.....you know, kinda like they do when one gets removed altogether, someone starts a thread about it....

I agree topics would be re-created, but to me the benefits far outweigh the risks.
kissmedeeply: No becos they do say pls think about what you are going to post and hit the reply button...
I really dont think we should have the right..
We need to think before we post
But here's the thing.....say someone UPDATES their own thread... how many times have you seen people just read the opening post and make a comment without checking to see if the OP has added or changed anything to their original post? Then the confusion starts......

Then i think people should start at the first then read through to see if the op changed it..
kissmedeeply: Well then maybe we should change that..
People will be going crazy loving to lock their own threads..
it would be a mad house around here..
That it would, I'm sure! I can see some on here that would start a thread to stir a stink then lock it just make everyone mad.......guess it's all in taking the good with the bad......

In which case the thread could still be reported for trolling, so in the end, its a job the mods would be doing anyways.
nah, I was guilty of commenting on a resurected thread, it was so dang long I read the first page of so, and then posted, come to find out it was an old one no longer applying- whoops. I do wish this could be like other sites where you can skip to last read post, like when a thread goes to 5 pages and you know you left off towards the bottom, you go to last read and boop you're there without all the scrolling, JMHO

I think we've all been guilty of adding to a resurrected thread without observing the original date or checking to see if the OP has changed anything from their OP, even if it's when we first came to this site....
