wexlady41: Hey. I am a sad Big girl.

hey if you like it you like it thumbs up it just pi**ses me off. just like lots of romcom films out there. they paint a truly unrealistic picture of the ideal man, and then when people are daft enough to believe it, they end up bitterly disappointed (and god have us boys suffered as a result)

the irony of it all, is that if you ask most single girls what they're looking for, they'll say 'a genuine guy'... but Boyzone, Westlife, and many a RomCom are so far from genuine it's not even funny

Yet they (cd's / dvd's / merchandise) sell by the millions!

doh doh doh

I don't think you are giving women much credit here.

I love Romcoms and slushy luvvy duvvy books, music, pictures. Basically anything that is a little bit of feelgood fantasy. And I know they are only fantasy..but what harm is that. I don't think many women really expect to find a real man who is as "perfect" as a carachter in a movie. I think women are a little more intelligent than that. But we can still enjoy the film.

Every man who watches football doesn't claim to be the best footballer..or expect to be paid millions for their match in the local park on a Sunday morning. They don't expect all the women in their local pub to be fighting over them, or their pictures to grace every newspaper and magazine. But they still enjoy football.

But honestly, can you say truly 100% that you're able to seperate the fantasy from the reality? That not even a little of it creeps into the subconscious?
dunno

Oh come on now. Have you never heard of suspension of disbelief. When I come out of a James Bond movie, I'm convinced if just for a few minutes that I can save the world and end up in bed with the girl!conversing

To wexlady

Fair point, what you said about enjoying the luvvy duvvy stuff, being able to enjoy it as fantasy, and seperate it as reality. I guess why i thought of it in the first place, is that from real world experience i've found alot (not all) of women's expectations to be just too high when it comes to dating and relationships, and i wondered why that was

Yep!!!

Men on screen are actors. They are paid to portray a certain type of person and I might not like the person they play in their next film.

Example..I loved the portrayal of Bill Parrish in Meet Joe Black. But I wasn't that enamoured with Hannibal the cannibal. Yet both were played by Anthony Hopkins!!!

Likewise I love the lyrics in love songs..but I don't expect to have those lyrics written or sung to me or about me. They are lyrics..same as the National Anthem or hymns or gregorian chants. They are words.

Maybe I'm very cynical but I don't think "love" exists in real life the way it does in the movies or in songs. As I said..they are escapism, fantasy.
