Apparently Rizlared was deeply impressed by my exposé of the CIA's involvement with introducing LSD into the American youth culture and conducting experiments using drugs, hypnotism, torture and other techniques to alter or control how people think.

I could tell Rislared wanted to draw me out on the subject, So, I felt compelled, for his sake, to start another thread about it.

This is for you Rizlared.

First of all, before going back to the 60s to talk more about LSD, lets start off with a more recent example of CIA drug involvement.

Raise your hands if you know who Gary Webb was.
hmmm, that's what I thought.
OK, a quick refresher course is in order.

This was Gary Webb.

As he explains, he was an investigative reporter.
His biggest and most famous story exposed CIA involvement in smuggling Cocaine into the US, and in creating the Crack Cocain plague that so devasted poor inner city communities.

Understandably the government didn't like that story getting out, so they put pressure on Gary's newspaper to quash the story.

Webb left the paper and continued to publish the story himself, winning a Pullitzer prize for his book "Dark Alliance" all about the story.

So the CIA murdered Webb to shut him up.

Read the foreward to Webb's book, written by Congresswoman Maxine Waters.

Here are some more videos about Webb

Freeway Ricky Ross, the dealer to whom the CIA furnished cocain for the crack trade was interviewed in prison many times by Gary Webb and the two became friends.

After Webb's murder, Ross told a reporter:
"The last time I talked to Gary he was excited and happy about life. He was thriving and looking towards the future."

Webb was killed by 2 gunshot wounds to the face, both exiting the back of his head.

The coroner ruled the death as a suicide, saying:
"It's unusual in a suicide case to have two shots, but it has been done in the past, and it is in fact a distinct possibility."

But in this case, the gun was a 38 caliber revolver that would have had to be re-cocked, re-aimed and re-fired for the second shot.

Believe it was suicide if you want.
After all, its the official story.

So we've seen the CIA's involvement in Cocain smuggling.

In the next post we'll look at the CIA's involvement in the heroin trade.

OK.

The CIA and the heroin trade.

Vietnam
It is common knowledge among Vietnam veterans that the CIA smuggled opium produced in Western Vietnam and Eastern Cambodia to heroin producers in the US. In "The Politics of Heroin in Southeast Asia", Alfred W. McCoy, a professor at the University of Wisconsin documents that the CIA used opium to fund covert operations. McCoy provides prolific testimony from many of the people involved in that trade. According to Dr. McCoy, the agency threatened to kill his sources and tried to keep the book from being published.

A seperate study published in Peace Magazine confirms that information.

US wars are never about helping poor countries resist agression.
They are always about some sort of lucrative trade.
In Vietnam it was heroin.
In the middle east it's both heroin and oil.

Afghanistan
American CIA agents were smuggling opium out of Afghanistan, both into the West, and into the Soviet Union.

According to historian Alfred W. McCoy, the CIA supported Afghan drug lords including Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. "In most cases, the CIA's role involved various forms of complicity, tolerance or studied ignorance about the trade, not any direct culpability in the actual trafficking... the CIA did not handle heroin, but did provide drug-lords with transport, arms, and protection. In sum, the CIA's role involved indirect complicity rather than direct culpability."

When the US gave the Taliban Freedom Fighters control over Afghanistan, they eradicated opium production throughout the country. When the US came back and occupied Afghanistan again the poppies were replanted and opium production soared to its highest levels ever.

Don't forget that the major market for heroin is the US where it is a multi-billion dollar industry. Tons of heroin are imported every year. Not only through the mafia's "French Connection" but also through CIA flights similar to those of the Contra-Cocain connection. USAF bases in Texas and private airfields in Arkansas have been used for such flights.

blah blah You can't start a drug use problem if there aren't people dumb enough to sell and use them. Besides, this sounds like something only Chomsky could write.laugh
