My experience goes thus -
If you actually get one who turns up when you've both been in touch on the phone etc and agreed to travel and meet for a chat etc at a local place of her choice near to her, then count yourself lucky.

Out of a dozen who actually approached me in the first instance, only two have honoured such an agreement and with my background I am no snob, but prefer to meet at a proper restaurant rather than greasy spoons or pubs.
I was going to meet someone half way but the rain drove him off to his 'place in the sun' - pity, he seemed really normal. 
But talking on the site help build confidence in someone anyway, so even if you only end up as friends, it's ok.
I agree with Haunebu, no greasy spoons - posh pub ok though - lunchtime! Thing is, if you think it won't go any further than a drink or coffee, then is it fair to meet at all?? Guess we all have different expectations.
Oh, and if you ex was on here - would you give them a recommendation??
