Keeneland: I really dont see how Giles can be put ahead of Keane in an Irish Shirt. Giles never got us to a major championship and we under acheived when he played for and managed us. Keane single handed got us to the 2002 World Cup Finals with his displays in the qualifiers. Giles played 59 times for Ireland with 5 Goals. Keane pleyed 66 times for Ireland with 9 Goals.
Also on the domestic front Giles won 2 League titles, 2 FA Cups, 1 League Cup and 2 Fairs Cup (UEFA Cup).
Keane won 7 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, Champions League, Scottish Premier League and League Cup, Football writers and PFA player of the year 2000 and was inducted to the hall of fame in 2004.
puggle: was it not nine nil???? as for united... can only see hargreaves as the closest thing to box to box like keane was.. imo
My apologies, it was 9-0. Andy Cole definitely scored five that day though. Oh and i agree about Hargreaves. I just hope he comes back the same player after his injury heals.

well maybe its my leeds bias talking but, still an irish legend at all levels...
i`ll not contest their club achievements.. just to say that united un-contested for those 8 keane yrs..ok odd arsenal charge.. but b.rovers and villa and newcastle/keegan and co. hardly testers in my opinion... plus it was an excellent team round keane too.. yes leeds were good with the ones i already mentioned.. but.. back then as like todays league, any 8 teams could beat each other!
as for ireland!! well why i`d have giles as an irish legend ahead of keane is... underage caps goals..then those 59 for senior, most as captain, then to go and manage the senior side!
a total comitment to ireland from birth and prob till his death! can ya honestly see keane manage ireland some day?? core ireland away fans that i travel to away games reg say... please never him! ever! but ya neva know! neva saw him and quinn bein buds!! lol..

giles is livin irish leg! keano...not yet! imo..
I can never see Keane manage Ireland because he hates the FAI even seven years on. The guy holds grudges for a long time. Anyway he'd want to do start winning games at Ipswich before they would even consider him to succeed Trappatoni.
Giles and Keane have more in common than they think. They both have big mouths, were both great players in their day but both were very outspoken and not immune to the odd dirty tackle.

In response to: For me Maradonna......the hand of god...say no more
I reckon years from now people will be talking about Ryan Giggs in the same vein they are talking about Maradonna and Pele today. The guy is the consumate professional, conducts himself well on and off the pitch, can dribble, pass the ball and score goals. He may not be the most prolific when it comes to goals but for me, he is right up there with the best.
I dont think there can be one for "all time"....there are different eras of football In my lifetime the players i think outshine anyone are Zinedine Zidane and Roy Keane, two players that could walk into any team and replace anyone, nobody better in my opinion

oooooh no way. sorry mate. giggsy in his first couple of years was a class act, but like u said since then he's a consumate professional, hard-working and effective but not inspirational. inspirational a must for best player of all time

i think the same about vidic. i think he is sensational but i dont think defenders get half the credit they deserve half the time. i LOVE HIM. and i know he has had a few sending offs but remember the king of football roy keane did the same. UP VIDIC

The guy has been playing first team football for united for the past 19 years. Although he doesn't play as often these days, he has won almost every honour in the game more than once. How many players can you say that about? For me, thats pretty inspirational
