There is a mechanism at work called the dream sensor and it's job is to make your dreams fade quickly when you awaken. It can be over ridden but it takes time and practice. As soon as you awaken you must write down what you remember, even fleeting glimpses. As you continue this dream journal you will be able to remember more and more as time goes on. Good luck.

I keep a noebook by the bed for this reason. It's usually the subconscious mind releasing stuff from the past for the conscious mind to deal with in my case at least. I do have the strangest dreams at times and often I'm afraid that if I die in the dream, I will physically die as sometimes I'm aware I'm dreaming. I force myself to wake up. Terrifying really but it's all about letting go of old ideas and moving forward.
