FluffyDuffy: Rats are vermin too, Would you have a problem with a dog ripping a rat to shreds?

Yes. I would have a problem with killing any animal in a cruel and really painful manner for sport. professor

Rats spread disease and serious disease at that but you wouldnt kill a rat because they are lovely creatures, right?
I have poured boiling water on rats that were living in my back garden before and I would do it again, after all I had a 3 year old child playing out there

Where did I say I would not kill a rat?confused Where did I say Rats are lovely creatures?confused I said I have no problem killing vermin but you seemed to have missed that!roll eyes I just have a problem with killing them in a cruel manner and killing them for sport. There are many humane ways the Fox Population can be controlled. Squirrals spread as much disease as Rats. Why not por boiling water on them too?roll eyes

Ok if you dont like sport like this then fair enough, They are vermin that need to be exterminated, I have shot foxes and I have let them suffer because i believe they should suffer after all they are vermin, I wouldn`t shoot a rat thats a waste of a bullet and they are too small to be shooting, Grey squirrels are verminprofessor so you can do what you like to them, just dont harm Red squirrels they have dwindling numbers in the wild and are a protected species mainly because the grey squirrel ousted then when they were introduced hundreds of years ago, Grey squirrels are a good fun to be shooting, They are very agile and you need to have a good shot, thats what makes them such good sport, I shoot wood pigeons too, They are vermin, nothing better than aiming my shotgun at a wood pigeon flying over head, pulling the trigger and BANG!!! all you see is a puff of feathers falling to earth along with a blood soaked pigeon corpse, ah its all for the sportgrin

robpacciani: Somehow people see fun in it... Its different if you shoot an animal to eat it, its over in an instant but to hound an animal for hours, smoke it out of a hole and then let dogs rip it to bits as a sport is awful.. were not in the 19th century anymore.

I see nothing wrong with that, We are hunters after all, What foxhunters do is nothing different to what a lion would do to a zebra

A lion kills a zebra for food, not for sport. Can you try imprint that into your brain???

I know somebody who killed a fox and ate it, skinned it and kept the coat
He said he roasted it in the oven, put soy sauce all over it and it turned brown, nicest meat he ever had

many people are employed by hunts and although paid small wages are usually given accommodation.

Banning hunting will mean these families will lose their incomes and their homes.

Perhaps we should spare a thought for them

Please correct me if i am wrong but very few off ye seem to have anything to do with or no any of the facts about hunting.... Ye all just seem concerned about the innocent animals... as with the mojoraty of the people "for the ban" were last night. if you live in a city (nothing personal meant to those in cities that are involved in animal sport) and dont follow the sport either drag or live keep out off it. leave the fight to those that understand the sport.
im not saying that either is right or wrong but i have been involved in both sides of the sport. both with pros and cons.

The fox hunting in my area mainly involves guns. Not horses and dogs.
