woodzchick: It is pretty much that way here, too. I think they are only entitled to give you 8 weeks unless the doctor specifies differently.
I was having a c-section and wanted to stay out a few more weeks to heal well. I was a Vet. Tech at the time and had to lift a lot of heavy animals. I also wanted to come back part time for just a few months, till my baby was a little older. He wanted me back full-time at 8 weeks. I ended up leaving the job so that I could do as I felt was needed. I don't blame him. I just felt that it was necessary to be there for my baby.
I left the job and after 12 weeks I went right back out and got another job working in another animal clinic. I wished it was that easy to get a job now.

Friday afternoons I would always take my secretaries out to lunch as a thankyou for their help that week.
No ulterior motive..... just to show them I appreciated their effort...... allways made for a good working atmosphere.
