StrongSilentType: Yea, only problem with that is that if it's crap i.e. just lads takign their shirt off and f all story and I think it's ok for her to see it, then I'll have to sit through it all over again. Once I can handle, twice and I'll be pulling my hair out....well if I had any that is!

The first one is ok. I could sit through it more than once. The second one is pretty boring but nothing at all that could be considered scary. If she can watch the first, she'll be fine with the second. Although the third might be scarier judging from the books and trailers but you might have opened a door you can't close at that point. She'll really want to see it.
MimiKate: Been watching the Twilight movies this evening to see what all the fuss is about... ..still want to know how it ends, but can't get decent quality for Eclipse
A good website is pirate city.
One of the best films i've ever seen that wasn't a big name blockbuster was Grosse Point Blank.
wanyo1: is eden lake the english film with the evil kids. if so i never wanted to get up and walk out of a cinema so much in my life. it was sick
Sounds like the one alright. There was a couple of movies around that time with the same premise. The remake of Funny Games was another one. I wanted to walk out of that one too. Not because it was sick but it was SO bad. 2 emo kids terrorising a couple. The emos were just not intimidating in any way and the acting from them was brutal. One movie around the same premise that I enjoyed was Wolf Creek. Set in Australia. That was freaky.

a girl brought me to that so i couldn't just get up and leave but i'm not messing, if anyone else in the cinema had stood up i'd have followed it was that sick, i don't know how anyone could like that film, i mean there wasn't even a happy ending to the horror

Know what you mean. Horrors are getting a bit too (almost) realistic these days. They used give you white knuckles and ten a feeling of resolution when you left the cinema, like Jaws for instance. Now it's just how much gore they can put into 2 hours and leave you not wanting to trust anyone. It used to be an art, to scare you witless yet still tell a good story. Now the story has been lost and it's all the same but trying to out-do each other on the way these people are killed. Sure just look at Saw. The first one was a very good. Intense, thilling and a little scary. Then as the sequels racked up, just turned into a gore fest. I find Hostel to be the lowest of the low in this genre. Just an excuse to get young girls naked and then carve them up. It's only one step away from real snuff movies.

I agree, there's no suspense just a gore fest nowadays. Not much of it scares me these days and I'd love a good horror.
When are they going to realise that less is more, leaving questions unanswered, leaving the audiences own imagination do the work. It costs less than all the CGI and makes for a much more intense experience.
As for the lowest of the low, I'd throw in the Devil's Rejects and The hills have eyes!

god i fully agree with you, i loved the first saw movie and even the second but they just got to be too much. i didn't finish lookin at the first hostel and never went back for more. horrors should make the hair on your neck stand up, not make you wanna vomit. i remember coming out of the cinema in dundrum after that eden lake and not bein able to look at a kid outside.
MimiKate: Watched The Changeling tonight..... So damn sad and frustrating, but brill acting by Angie
was at my very best not to cry after that film, very gut wrenching the whole way through. i watched book of eli, one of the best i've ever seen now i have to say
