I think the term "God Fearing" is a colloquialism for having a profound belief in God that seems to come from the stricter Christian sects (or maybe the Spanish Inquisition?, LOL). It seems to be much more common in older English texts than it is in the common vernacular today, which can make it seem a bit out of place. However, someone who may not have English as a first language could very possibly latch onto that term through reading and apply it even if it's not the most apt for one's belief system.
It seems to be directed toward the fire and brimstone flavors of Christianity, which are rapidly falling out of favor today.
At least that's my take on it. I've given some thought to the phrase in the past because I found it a bit curious, too, when encountering it.

In the meantime if you have the phrase "God fearing" anywhere on your profile....I'd advise you strongly to change it!
