DjWabbet: Well being fresh out of a CPR kinda helped..

Yes, refresher courses are essential. But I wonder how many people have never learnt anything about it... it's scary...

bestbefore: Had to do a course for the Social Services and part of the training was C.P.R. We all had to practise on this lifelike doll and believe me it suffered a few cracked ribs in the process.Alarm bells going off all over the place!!!!!!!!!! Not an easy thing to do,but well worth knowing

Yes, absolutely. Also, what's worse - cracking someone's rib while trying to resuscitate them, or going to their funeral?

Boban1: As I have no Medical knowledge my "diagnose" could do him more harm than actually save his live
but I do watch Doctor House regularly , on TV ...
you dont need medical knowledge to do that, just learn few routines and if you manage to keep your senses and not panic in a situation..you can spare yourself the remorse..

cherrybrandy: i do it for living..
but i would have done it,even if my profession was different..in my opinion everybody should be able to give first aid..people do happen to find themselves in circumctances where that matters..

Yes, and they don't know before it happens. Being prepared is essential, I think!

When I had to resuscitate my best friend I was strangely calm and somehow detached. But afterwards I was shaking and couldn't sleep for about a week... All I know is, I'm prepared to do it again, any time, for anyone who needs help. I just hope more people would...

invinciblemuse: Have you ever done a CPR course? Did you ever have to use CPR?

I think it's essential to know what to do in an emergency situation, but I've recently learnt that there are some people who don't think it's right, or who are too scared to do it.

So, what's your take on it??

Yes have done CPR on many occasions, was a Dental nurse, then a GP Receptionist, also worked in A and E in a large hospital.
Hey, . . would like to think i had "My " sort of person dealing with me in a 222 drama!!! LOLthumbs up heart wings

While I was an air crewman in the USCG, I took the emt course as it allowed me to do more search and rescue missions.

I kept up the certification for several years after I left the Coast Guard so I could teach the First Aid merit badge to Boy Scouts.

That certification is now close to 25 years out of date.

If it came to using it now, only on a family member. Due to the sue craziness, I won't even touch a complete stranger.

You sure have hit the nail on the head with this Thread. I have used CPR many times. I use to be an instructor and have seen lives saved and sorry to say also lives lost.

I have performed CPR work on more than one person. I then lost a six month old in my arms. I turned to booze after that and spent 10 years trying to forget. I have now gone 21 years without a drink and have made amends with the family that lost their child.

I use to think (when I drank that CPR and First Aid) where useless tools to have. I am now working to get my instructors courses again, so I can teach again.

I believe everyone should have a choice if they take CPR or First Aid. The place that I work wants all employees to have both. Some of the older employees don't want to take the course in case they fail. In my class if you show up you will pass. I will spend time with you to make sure you pass.

You have to understand, CPR and First Aid do save lives. You should also know that sometimes it isn't enough, but we all can't be doctors.

Good Luck, take the course.

RUBBISH! Sorry, I know the legal side in the US may be a bit mental, but I really think it's better to try than to just stand by and watch. Do a refresher course, please! There's nothing worse than to do nothing!

I can't imagine the kind of trauma you've gone through, but you took action and did your best. The only person who gave this child a slight chance was you. Thank you very much for sharing this with us. I salute you!

So, everyone, please hear what we are saying and take action!! Thank you.

I've taken CPR and a First Aid course a couple times, it's a good thing to learn, and I think everyone should take it. I also took it when I was in school, and in Scouts.

I've never had to use CPR, but have had to use First Aid before.

No reason not to take it, and often you can find a course in your community for a small fee, or free.

thumbs up
