K_rational: "You're entitled to your own opinion. You're not entitled to your own facts." - Patrick Moynihan
The problem is never that people disagree in opinion when they agree on the facts. The problem is always people who try to ignore and deny facts because reality proves them wrong.
For example, there are idiots who claim the first moon landing was a fake. There are six reflectors on the moon that can be detected by lasers on Earth. The reflectors were placed by the astronauts during the six moon landings (11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17). How else would they have been put there?
Hey K_r, you've made a few good points but also (imo) made a typical mistake in your moon landing example above. You've already decided that the reflectors left on the moon are an "indisputable fact" that substantiates your opinion. This is fine as another proof to your argument but you're already calling anyone disagreeing with that an "idiot".
Thread arguments start off with slips like that...
demonfairy: An opinion is a statement or thought about an issue or topic, and is the result of emotion or interpretation of facts====An opinion may be supported by an argument, although people may draw opposing opinions from the same set of facts.======Opinions rarely change without new arguments being presented. However ,it can be REASONED that one opinion is better supported by the facts then another by ANALYSING the supporting arguments........After reading this my opinion is that its healthy to discuss topics,as long as its done respecting each others views,is handled in a adult manner. What do you think? ......(no fighting please)
You know, I used to say and think that one ought to respect everybody's views, but I changed my opinion on that issue.
There are some views that are, for lack of a better word, dangerous or destructive. There are opinions that just are... no arguments to support them... now why should one respect such opinions or the person who holds them?

I suppose whichever opinion looks the best is the better opinion, it is the one that will assumed to be true. To myself my own opinion matters most unless another can disprove it.

DF for you,
There will definately have the better or the best opinion among many opinions, but it is also very important for the way how u represent your opinion against others in a polite way or rude way, then can minimize the silly fightings,

I agree....some simply do not deserve to be treated as others simply because of how they post thier opinions.....yopu can see it dayly here....one reason why I post more in the mornings....IMP simply a better crowd for the most part...

See what I mean about people who reject facts because it conflicts with their denial of reality?
I'm not saying I do not believe in the manned moon landing, I am speaking hypothetically to make a point...
I am saying that people who do claim it is a fake have their own arguments. My point is that you cannot present factual evidence as solid indisputable truth and call anyone not accepting that as an 'idiot'. In your argument you stated: "there are idiots who claim the first moon landing was a fake", then you end with "How else would they have been put there?".
For a start if one is disagreeing about the FIRST moon landing, then the reflectors could very well have been placed by the subsequent landings. Also similar retroreflector arrays were planted on the moon by the unmanned Soviet Lunokhod 1 and Lunokhod 2 rovers. Therefore the presence of the American retroreflectors in themselves cannot prove a manned landing as they could have been installed in the Soviet fashion.
Once again I am not saying that there wasn't a manned lunar landing but that anyone can argue that what you are constituting as 'absolute proof' is subjective and argueable.
That said, I agree with you in principal about people who choose to deny even more definite and provable realities but still if such persons state their (assumably incorrect) opinion on a subject matter, they are obviously convinced of their point of view and calling them 'idiots' is surely not going to make them receptive to your (assumably correct) viewpoint.

Some things are opinion and some things are fact. Most things are just theory and can be argued either which way... Many times I don't have an opinion on something or could go either way because my usual opinion is that EVERYTHING is within the realm of possibility and once I am closed to hearing others opinions I am doing myself a disservice because I am no longer learning. What I can't stand is attacking the person rather than the issue. Name calling is never called for.

Exactly. And continuous forum harrassment following a disagreement is also something that comes into this bracket.
It's a good question and the answer is: Absolutely not. It is impossible for your opinion to be better than mine, although if it is the same as mine, it can be just as good.

And wont be tolerated.
If you are referring to the stalking that some times happens when a person can't let go......This happens a lot when a person seems to think that they need the last word....its ugly to watch and is not fair to the party that is being stalked and should be reported...because everyone has a right to there opinion with out being harrassed.
