I raise Pit Bulls, and have an American Bulldog.

Rats and mice come for their food.

So, I got my friend to give me a kitten; because the neighborhood cats are afraid of my dogs, they stay away from my house.
I raised the cat with my dogs, and they all love each other.
The cat had kittens, and they all eat from the same dish, and sleep together.

My neighbors moved in over a year ago, and started luring my cats away with meat, and fish.
The rats started to come back.

I went to my neighbors, and explained mt situation; they agreed to leave my cats alone; I gave them a very cute kitten of their own.
We made a deal, they'd leave my cats alone, and keep the kitten I gave them.

They never stopped luring my cats into their house.
Eventually they lost the one I gave them; and, redoubled their efforts to keep my cats, at their house.

I have tried to be polite about it, for over a year.

Recently my cat gave birth again, to 6 of the cutest kittens; under my house.

My neighbors lured the mother into their house, and locked it in.
All six of my kittens died because their mother was locked away from giving them food, and warmth.

When I complained to the landlord... my neighbors wife started yelling at me, for not feeding my kittens, and letting them die!

They weren't weaned, they wouldn't come out from under the house, they cried out of reach, until they died.

My neighbor now has taken the position that since the kittens died, they should keep the mother cat, which I raised from a kitten before they even lived here.

If somebody could give me advice on how I could get my neighbors to stay away from my cats, I would appreciate it.
Right now, I'm afraid I'm going to beat my neighbors into bad health with a baseball bat.

I don't want to end up in court, in jail, or evicted; but, my animals are like my children to me.
Ever since I found two of my 6 kittens dead yesterday, and can't find the other 4, I've been really depressed.

My neighbors act reasonable when the landlord is talking to them; then they go straight back to yelling at me, and locking my cats in their house when he leaves.

My neighbors are not bigger than me, they can't beat me up, they are taking advantage of the fact, I'm trying to be peaceful.

I could sure use some other perspectives on my situation; I want to settle it, without violence.

I'm really feeling stuck.
I don't want my animals hurt, or stolen; and, I don't want anymore dead kittens!

this is just so sad - maybe speak to the animal protection society for advice as it seems they have in fact stolen your cat.

They're a couple; I can hear them getting their story together through the walls, after every instance.

It will be my word, against the lie they make up; while the police are on their way.

Let out the dogs laugh

Honestly, it might be a good idea to get some witnesses, videos, mailed warnings, etc. to back you, it could come in handy one day.

1. try it the legal way, sue them. It'll take ages and you won't really win.

2. take that baseball bat. Your neighbours are not reasonable sensitive people. You might have to explain the situation to them in a language they understand.

I have pretty similar neighbours, I already know what works with them...

My palms are sweaty, my heart is pounding.

I keep walking 1/2 way there, ready for a fight; and, turning around.

That's why I'm trying to find another way to deal with it.

I don't know that much about US law (wink at you, lawyer buddies )wink but in Europe animals are legally considered a thing and unless the other one causes you a damage on your property that exceeds a certain (rather higher) sum no court will accept your case. And we're back at the baseball bat...

Start by copying this letter to the local paper A...you would be suprised how fast peeps will do a turn around when they are embarrassed. I would also contact the local animal welfare authorities and let them know whats happened. I would go for a free consult with a lawyer/police and explain and let them give you advise. It would also make the authorities aware of the situation....lunatics usually have records. I hope this works out for you. Bless your heart for loving animals. teddybear

Im a bit of a hot head and always in some sort of trouble. Its best not to do what I'd instinctively do. Others here are giving far more sensible advice.

Have some beer? Though i know it wont help and you probably don't want it. I think the situation should be settled between you and the neighbor but as violence is never an option for me, I'll just have to see to it that my cat enjoys the comfort of having two homes feeding her. Sorry, not much help. dunno

This current situation might be a lost cause and violence will only get you into trouble. It would have been great if you could have micro-chipped your animals. Then it could be proved your neighbors had your possessions. This still might be a good way for you to start over. It would be clear sailing from now on.

It's been 16 years since I hit a man; I don't like violence.

My cats are my pets; and, I love them.

I started out here, by saying I got the cats, to keep rats away from my dog food.

I have thousands of dollars worth of pedigreed dogs, which I have raised from puppies for 7 generations.
When a rat goes to the bathroom in puppy food, it can give them Lepto.
Lepto can wipe out $10,000 worth of puppies in a week; and, leave you with vet bills of about $500 dollars per dead pup.

These are all part of the things I tried to explain to my neighbors.
That's why I got cats to raise with my dogs.

Cats are a dime a dozen, cats that have been trained to live with Pit bulls are rare, it takes lots of training, and socialization; I can't easily replace them.

They can get a cat that meets their needs easily; I even gave them one of their own!

My neighbors have showed me, they don't value my property, my animals, my wishes, or my feelings; they'll take what they can, when they can, if they can.

Ironically, I think they got the courage to feel that way from drinking beer; I don't think it will help if I follow your advice, and drink it too.

I don't want to share my cats with them!

I want to share my anger, I want to share how uncomfortable they made me, in my own home, I want to share the loss I feel from having my kittens dead, in a bag.

I am doing my best to do it non-violently; but as far as I'm concerned, they deserve anything good from me.

I like your microchip idea, I have a tattoo brand here; a branded animal is under Federal jurisdiction.

Stealing a branded animal is like stealing a horse, or cattle.

I do intend to bring my neighbors into the FBI's realm of investigation, and punishment.

The only problem with this alternative is... they keep my cat locked up long enough for it's kittens to die; and, then they let her out again.

I just talked to my landlord, about my cats, and neighbors again.

He told me, if they get caught one more time with my cats, they are evicted! YEAH!!!!!

All I need to do to call my cats out of my neighbors house, is tap on a single serving container of 1/2 & 1/2 for coffee; they come running.

If I do that in front of my landlord, I get new neighbors!

I just skimmed the thread so maybe someone already suggested this.

Could it be that this is a round about way for them to harm your pits if they understand the risk the rats pose to them?

I like a well trained pitbull. they are very good dogs if raised right. Some people though don't understand that. The same sort of people that don't understand it is wrong to steal someone elses cat.

I think you might be right.
They want a Pit Bull too.
I've heard them complain before.

I lived here longer than anybody, I pay the least rent, have the most room, the best space, and, the most freedom.
I'm the only one that lives here, who's allowed to own a Pit Bull.

I'm a professional dog trainer; I train Service Dogs.
I also do some simple veterinary work; I've helped train, and medically treated my landlord's dog.

I'm allowed to breed Pits, board them, and own as many as I want, right next door to my cat stealing neighbors.
They have the same landlord; who tells them, they can't have any breed of dog at all.

It could be they even want to hurt my dogs, because they're jealous.

Since you like a well trained Pit Bull.... here's a link with some pictures of my Pit Bulls.

Here's a pedigreed OFR Red Nose Pit Bull, I trained as a Service Dog; and, placed in a good home.
