I think the thing is that as much as we revere honesty, it isn't always easy or RIGHT to be honest because it can hurt people's feelings. Don't you think anyway that truth is subjective? I mean, what is MY truth may not necessarily be YOUR truth? For example, there was an Italian guy I've chatted to a couple of times on a dating site and we then exchanged Skype addresses. While we were chatting he told me that he finds it hard to understand me because he finds my English accent rough! He said he prefers the American accent!!!
I was totally taken aback at his rudeness. Here in SA, my accent is actually quite refined. When I have travelled in the past, many Americans and Australians mistook me for English and most people really like my accent. Anyway, I realised that it was silly to take it personally - that he was just being honest and that it was HIS perception... BUT this is just an example that although honesty is good to aspire to, tact needs to go with it hand in hand!
