JAN_is: Most medical experts agree that the Mediterranean diet is the healthiest, unfortunately the younger generation in particular are moving away from their more traditional diet, whether it be Mediterranean or other such as Japanese for example, in favour of the American junk food powerful influence.
This is why we are seeing more obesity in children now in Spain, and other Med countries, unheard of a few years ago. Still not on the scale found in the USA or even the UK, but worrying all the same.
Sadly this is happening in Mexico too...Its seems once Mac gack and puke moves in, health goes out the window.

Godsgift: I'm told that the diet around the medeteranian is the most healthy. I have had similar problems with cholestorol and type 2 diabetes but I still have the odd dalience with the frying pan.
Try putting more olive oil in your diet...like every day and a glass of red wine with lunch and dinner. Do the exercise too, just simply walking will make a difference. One big thing were doing today is eating mechanically by meal schedules created over hundreds of years without decreasing the amount of food because we're not burning the calories from physical labor. How many people are really hungry when they eat lunch at noon and then again at 5-6pm?

I'm seeing it over here in Italy in the food stores...more and more pre-packaged foods then there were in the 80's when I came here for the first time.

Olive oil is fine and also avocado oil (whenever is possible to get it) and definitely red wine is a must which I love it at dinner time.
Size matters here
We need to adjust the food portions, no need to eat that much every time.
sometimes I would skip my regular dinner and have only some nuts and two glasses of table wine and later on I will have some fresh fruit, which we get here all year round.
Attitude for life is important, we need to learn to be happy with whatever we got, whatever we have or not, who ever we are.....any order you like it!
