trish123: I think its maybe the same kinda thing as the cannabis wars where scaremongering worked on the uneducated masses quite well
Very true Trish, thats why beurocratic spin works so effectively, tell an uneducated society something that soundss too good to be true & sadly generally they fall for it & go along with it.

Exactly Steve, thats why Im so against religions having any political swaying power or even more, any opportunity to sour young minds..... and they know it too, thats why they used latin for so long, it kept a veil of mystery over their corrupt power play/games.....

Im so glad they dont teach latin anymore .
Im the same as you Trish, it annoys me that religious groups ( especially minority ones) can have so much say in a countries policies.
What has always amazed me is that religious groups will put down others like druids, but the Cornish miners who came to South Australia there was a large group that were both Druids & devout Methodists ( either Primitive Methodist or Bible Christian), but the Weslyan methodist Church ( upper class one) frowned upon it

Lots of people left England in those days because of the persecutions and corruptions in the church - lucky for us all too cos we now have the diversity of cultures in not only Aus but also the USA - religions are all good and proper for those who need the crutch but they should stay their hellness outa politics - where the heck will the masses run to next time they write a Maleus Maleficarum?..........
Hey I'm a Druid Newbie..... have to research the down and dirty history before getting into defense mode, think it's been about 24 hrs now.. since I've considered the pagan way.

There is very little known about actual Druidic religion and practices. Much of what is considered 'Druidic' is romance. It became quite popular during the 19th cent. with the rise of Arthurian literature. Only a handful of lines by the Roman Historian Tacitus are extant. The Roman massacre of the Druids (according to Tacitus: The Agricola) was initiated owing to the Roman aberration of human sacrifice. Many have suggested that this reason was merely a pretext for the Roman administration to rid themselves of the highly influential Druidic class. For the Tribal Chieftains were being goaded into rebellion and resistance by the Druids. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Archaeological finds in bogs suggest there may be truth in what Tacitus wrote.
Despite the dearth of knowledge on the the subject, the religion is gaining popularity. Personally, I don't mind what people believe.

yep, the drive to have us all as christians wiped out massive segments of our history - I have to admit to finding forgiveness more than a little difficult in some cases - its a bit like the spin we were sold when the Native Americans were so ruthlessly decimated

The Wicker Man is a great movie. I just watched a special feature on the DVD where they talked about filming. It was cool. Christopher Lee seems to have some knowledge of paganism. Everyone who knows about THe Wicker Man probably also knows about the remake with Nicholas Cage. I loved it. I want to live there. Anyway, there is a third one called The Wicker Tree that is a sequel to the Wicker Man. Christopher Lee will appear in this movie and it is supposed to be released soon. I have no idea if it is good or not. Then, we subvert all the little boys and girls to pray to Nuada, Cernunos, Odin, Hecate, Oak Trees, and freak out all the squares. Sedate hippie anarchy! Sedate hippie anarchy!

Christianity is not responsible for the extermination of the Druids...oddly enough.
