While I appreciate everyone has a right to their opinion I have yet to see anyone who agrees with this stance (or something similar) to give alternatives. Maybe some who read this might put sone ideas up
Had a look at the petition and its absolute rubbish, the bail out is the best deal we can get at the moment,, if things improve in the future and we can borrow money elsewhere at a better rate then we are free to so.

This petition is rubbish, without EU/IMF assistance public sector wages wouldn't be paid ditto with social welfare.
Batt O'Keefe as also on record as saying that if the bailout hadn't been accepted public sector pay would have been cut by 38% and the same with social welfare.

Its true though and it irritates me!! To the thread-opener, you are against the bailout why? I want a detailed reason and if your against it you obviously must have an alternative.. I will give you until 2018 for a response thanks..
robpacciani: All these bright sparks are all against the bailout... I have yet to hear an alternative from these "bright sparks"
I heard Gilmore saying that instead of taking all the 85 billion he wants to use all the money in the pension fund and sell off what we can of the countries assets, I am not sure what assets he was talking about but it sounds like a recipe for an even worse disaster. Kind of like if a householder can't pay their heating bills burning all their furniture and then still having to sell the doors and windows to pay the gas bills

Exactly.. As much as i hate Fianna Fail and to be honest hate all politicians in this country at this stage, the only option was the bailout.. If the opposing members in parliament cant even think of a solid valid reason, why are normal joe-soaps that dont have a clue nor an alternative signing fekkin petitions... Signing for what? Id love to know... "Oh i want Michael Collins to be proud of me"... Were not in 1916 anymore, time to get real and live for the future, not the past

Isn't 12.5 billion out of the pension going out to bail out our wonderful banks?
I don't think Labour would favour privatization, there union friends would be disgusted. At least Fine Gael have come out in favour of privatisation.
I reckon that in the medium term Ireland will have to default.

Its going to be hard but we will get through it ,, if it means working longer hours for less pay so be it,,I emigrated for work during the eighties and nineties and yeah i worked hard but I had some great times too, I hear all the whinging going on about having to leave the country,, hello ,,its not famine shops they will be going on, some of these celtic tiger folk are just soft and will have to learn to stop complaining and get on with it
As I agree with this petition I also think that Irish people should sign another petition saying that they themselves won't act like sheep in the future by...
a)thinking before they vote b)not competing with their neighbours on materialistic things for the sake of show and getting into whole lot of debt that they can't get out of a as a result c) not dumping their rubbish in the countryside d) driving in a considerate way on the roads e) being kind to the elderly

why wait until then to default, we are just delaying the inevitable and prolonging the impending pain, in the negotiations we brought up sharing the burden with the bondholders, they said no we said ok that is not how you negotiate we should have left the talks went to the media panic the markets even further to try force a better deal, we had one card to play and we refused to use it

One of our worst characteristics as a people is to over exaggerate, I want a society based on self sufficiency not on dependency and the Celtic tiger has turned an awful lot of Irish people into a bunch of imps who put rights before responsibilities.
People survived in the 30's and 50's, people will survive in the 2010's once they get a bit of backbone.
