Well here goes my son 18months ago bought a staffordshire bull terrier the dog was about 10months old .
My ex had always had staffies even when our children were small .
Always belived it was the owners an not the dogs that were the problem .
All the staffs we had were very loveable and got on with all children .
The problem is my son has moved in with me since september and doesnt seem interested in going to visit his dog any more .
So its been left to my ex to walk the staff and his own westhighland terrier. Which he has been doing until recently
.But with work commitments they wernt getting out every day only every second .
So christmas he told my son to sell the staff or give her to a good home .Which my son did neither !!

Anyway my ex was walking the dogs 2 weeks ago as usual and out of the blue the staff attacked a king charles she broke the lead and attacked .Now my ex pulled her off the king charles straight away and paid for the 4 stiches the dog got .

Now hes not sure what to do with the staff he cant keep her because of work she needs a lot more excerise than the westie .
The rehoming shelters wont take her because of the attack ....

So my question is does anyone know what he can do besides put her down ?????

Staffs are one of the prescribed species in Ireland ... if you don't want to have her put down, you must get her out of the country ... to the UK???

Ah sure just drop her off at a kids park, let her off the lead and drive away, I am sure she will find a new owner with her lovable personality.

On a serious note: The dog has a viscous tendency, why should she not be put down? She attacked another dog and did damage that required stitches, if my dog did that Id have him put down.

dogs will attack other dogs for numerous reasons that doesnt mean they need to be put down if its an isolated incident. my dogs do have arguments all the time over whos the dominant one in the pack and even though there have been injuries the thought of putting them down never entered my mind.

Ya dogs fight for dominance that only natual, but this dog broke off the lead and had to be dragged off another dog and did some damage........when dogs fight within their own pack they rarely do serious damage. That breed of dog has a reputation for a reason and although I do believe the owner makes the dog in most cases, some cases a dog is just dangerous, I wouldnt take the risk and I would have it put down.

ive had a few dogs and theyve never been violent
would ya put it down if it attacked a child
the thing is if a fighting dog gets a grip on one of yer main arteries ya could bleed to death in ten minutes
staffs were origionaly bred for fighting

the rep is undeserved for the main part just as it is in shepards and rotties. my big male dog has also attacked another dog when one of our other dogs wasnt well to protect her, he did damage to the other dog and the dog did damage to him but neither were put down. i trust my dog and while i will probably get jumped on for this he has been brought to a creche on a number of occasions as he is great with children though i would never leave him alone with a child. any dog has potential to do serious damage regardless of breed and while the likes of staffies have larger jaws they are generally placid dogs on a whole.

theres a flaw in yer logic there
ya brought a fighting dog to a crechedunno uh oh
scary stuff
anyway
the thing is if a jack russell for example went for my throat or groin i could fight it off
but i wouldnt be able to fight off a 15 stone rotweiler
no chance
thats the difference with fighting dogs
if they get violent yer in serious trouble
many kids in the british isles have been killed by fighting?baiting dogs
and one is too many
i think yer a good skin salnaky but theres no way id bring a violent dog to a creche
its crazy
i hope you see the error of yer ways
i mean that in the nicest possible way handshake

to be fair had the dog been walked according to the law then the attack would never have happened, it should have been muzzled in a public place though so shoud german shepards but when do you ever see one of them with a muzzle on dunno

Sorry to say I agree with other posters. It looks like the dog will have to be put down.

The next attack could be on a child. What is more worrying is it had the strength to break the lead.

Also in the months before your son bought the dog how was the dog treated & trained? This is a critical time in a dog's learning process and was there a history of such behaviour before the dog was bought. If so then it might be too late for the dog.

hes not a fighting dog, hes far from it. hes actually a jack russell cross. i know my dogs and i would never describe any of them as violent. if i remeber right more people get attacked by border collies then staffs and rotties etc but because of silly undeserved reps all you hear about is the staffs dunno

I cant believe people are saying put the dog down.......the dog should have been muzzled, simple as, and any owner that doesnt have their dog muzzled is breaking the law and should be arrested in my opinion!!

Its easy to blame the dog

Cruel idiots!!!

thats different
yer missin the point though
if a border collie attacked me i could fight it off
theres no way i could fight off a 15 stone rotweiller
ive never read in any newspaper about a collie killing a child
ever
but ive read about plenty of bull terriers doing it and rotts
in illegal dog fighting dens staffs and rottweilers are the dogs of choice for a reason
my kids dos is a springer cross
the little bollix keeps biting me
he juss doesnt get walked enough
anyway i slapped its nose with a newspaper
i wouldnt do that to a 15 stone rottweiler cause id be afraid the thing could axctually kill me by ripping my throat out
its powewrfull enough to do it but my springer isnt
