I am just wondering if one can ever earn money on online Poker games...have it ever occured to you or to your friends? Do you have to be extremely good (several years of extensive experience for ex..) in order to earn some coins at all? Any recommendations for a online poker site?

Actually I do know of a few people who have made quite a bit of money from playing online poker. Of course they had to spend money, to make money. Example: a buddy of mine spent $1.00 on a game & won $2,000.00

I have an aunt who won a prize in pogo.com. They refused to award it to her claiming she used a bot program to play the game.
She's the type that if you are not an honest person, she has no time for you.

For over 3 years, I was head of training for a large online gaming co (I won't mention them) that offered Casino games and Poker. before I went freelance and trained gaming call centres around the world.

There are many people out there making seiously money from the online gaming world. In fact a guy called Chris Moneymaker (for real) became the first 'online' player to win the WEorld Series in Las Vegas. He'd never played 'proper' poker before

I would suggest staying away from casino games, as these ARE totally 'luck' and, with a built in house 'edge' on all casino games (online AND Bricks and Mortar) of anything up to 17+% in certain games, winning is ALL about the chance of it.

However, poker, as you ask, is a SKILL game with elements of luck. However, the luck is evenly distributed amongst all players so can be 'cancelled' out, in that respect. Basically, if YOU are a better player than ME, You will win, in the long term.

The house, (the online sites, or real poker halls) simply take a percentage (a rake) of every pot. They do not play the games and have NO interest in the outcome whatsoever.

Back in the OLD days, when some poker sites were starting up, there was some use of 'bots', fake players, to make up numbers on tables, so that real players could have a game.

Nowadays, this is totally unnecessary as all the big companies (and I'd suggest you choose a BIG one) have hundres of thousands of players around the world and have dealt upwards of 10-20 BILLION hands of poker.....!

The ONLY thing one has to be careful of is the small chance that ONE person is playing several positions, using multiple accounts. By knowing 3/4/5 hands, they have a serious advantage over other players on the table. Sophisticated software is in place at these companies and tehy all have Fraud Departments running 24/7, with dozens of employees checking continually. It's also not likely to be happening at the smaller 5c/10c tables. They want the BIG money.

As for suggesting a site, I'd recommend that you look at the big guys and see just what they are offering in the way of rewards and start up bonuses. Some will offer 10 x your first deposit, or $100 free or other incentives. There ARE stringes attached to these, you can't simply cash it out, but they are REAL incentives. It THAT'S not what you want, just download several, open 'demo' accounts and play them, until you find one that you feel comfortable with.
