trish123: Now heres a really sad story - get the tissues out for this one. I had a best friend one time, she had two beautiful little boys and a dog, an old Labrador, he had arthritis, blood disorders, very limited diet and masses of meds every day (courtesy of the pdsa), he had everything wrong with him you can think of.

My friend and her boyfriend split up and after a bit of time she gets it together with another friend of mine and theyre getting on great then one morning, 4 am, knock on my door and its the police - they had got really drunk, fallen asleep with a ciggie in the ashtray which burned down and fell onto the mattress - Katrina, both her adorable little boys and My friend Billy all perished in the smoke - wandering out of it to greet the fireman came the dog, right as rain.......... the people at the pdsa later that day gave him (Sam) double fish and chips then injected him so he could join the others..........

Awww.crying

He couldnt get upstairs but the whole house would have been full of smoke, it pained him to bark though Im sure he would have done but he must have laid with his head near a draught is what the medics said...........sigh

I read about a hamster I believe it was who saved it's owner(s) from a fire or something like that.

I rescued him and I think he gets frightened that Im going to go away and leave him too - he is such a character and so good with the cat. The cat is almost 2 now but just the other day I found him attacking the dog and he was sort of clinging on to him by all fours as the dog was trying to run away, piggy back style backwards - i was in fits of laughter grin

It wouldnt surprise me, I agree with you, animals are really much more clever than people give them credit for - Ive tied balls of bird food on the washing line this winter to stop the squirrels but I bet theyre there in the corner of the garden trying to figure out how to get to it rolling on the floor laughing

Hopefully your ambition will come true.

I wish I had the means to do it .There would be no need for animal shelters etc.
