Are Eamon Gilmore and Enda Kenny deluded?
They are spouting rubbish if they think they can renegotiate the terms and conditions of the IMF bailout...Its set in stone and nothing but defaulting on the deal can bring it down...Do they really think people are stupid enough to believe that they can change it??...and why are they telling people blatent lies??
To make people vote for them?? of course it is!!
This new crowd are as crooked as fianna fail everwhere...Telling people lies to get votesdoh

jimbo79: renegotiation is not an option, the only way we could change anything is if all other states decided to change the interest rate, my understanding of the loan was the reason the interest rate was high was to try get us back in the markets quicker a kind of incentive, the way i see it we have two options default now or hope things get better over the next couple of years, either way its a gamble

There is no possible way this country can repay its debts...Best thing to do is default like what Iceland did and they are recovering quicker than us because they let their banks go to the wall and what did we do? sign up for an unrealistic deal!! Its Just as crazy as what property prices were a few years back...pure madness...Default...Default....Default....Default

MarsMan: The distortion of truth, telling of half truths, fanciful stories and outright blatant lies is nothing new in elections, but I will say, that they do seem to be trying to out do each other with their outrageously deluded grandiose plans and schemes.

That is true...Politicians always told lies to get votes...Its just this time how could they think they could get away with saying such rubbish???....This is serious now ....Thye need to get real

There is very little in politics that can't be negotiated or renegotiated and this deal is more about the politics than finances.

At the moment Europe is like an angry parent, scolding Ireland like a bold child, But, in a year or so, as long as the crisis doesn't spread any further, the big guns of Europe will calm down, then the deal can and will be renegotiated, because opinion will shift, as it always does in politics, they will come to realise that the punishment they have dished out may have been far too excessive.

I agree.. but this wont happen anytime soon
The government will go along with it for a few years to keep Trichet and his gang happy then hopefully somebody will have the balls to stand up and say it how it is...We cant afford itfrustrated

My God, I still cant believe people are shouting to default!!Do any of ye really know what this entails and means!!
And Ireland would have had to borrow at a higher rate of interest from the bond markets if the loan was not made available. The damage was done long before the IMF loan. Time to get over it!!
