Are people in general more socially awkward? If so there maybe many reasons for this but could ONE reason be, social networking and technology?
I had many thoughts on this over the past wee while, then last night i was in a club with some friends. There were a group of 5 women ranging from 18-28, all seated in a row by the dancefloor, and all of them spebt the night not talking to anyone, including each other, because they had thier noses stuck in thier phones/iphones etc.... Madness, £9 to get into a place to sit and text/update facebook or whatever.
Now i know that these things are part of life, and im guilty of checking my phone every half hour or so incase one of my friends somewhere in the club has text etc...
I just have memories of having to arrange a time to call a girl at home, in my teen years, which meant calling the family home, and sometimes having to converse with her parents as a result. This ensured that they were very aware of ANY type of relationship thier daughter was in. But now, a quick text, nudge or facebook IM and its directly to her, .... i may not be making sense...lol.
I cant speak to all of society but I can that no...Im not socially awkward. All my kids have busy social lives as well. If you want more info...text me

I think it's how the individuals use the social networking. For me, it has been anything but a handicap for my social life. I think it reinforced my extrovert nature, actually.
When I'm at a club, my friends and I will occasionally check our phones or send a text. But that is by no means what we do with most of our time.
