For me i dont think there is anything wrong in your partner going through your phone or you going through your partner's phone, if you dont have any skeleton in your cupboard then there is no need to be aggressive or mad over it..

If you dont have anything to hide - then it shouldn't be a problem for them to read it.
The last guy I was dating - we'd swap phones (alot of our contacts being the same) - we saw no issue with who saw what message or anything like that - we had nothing to hide so there was no problem.
If your paranoid and sneaking around to read your partners phone - yeah then you defo have issues for sure - check your own self before you check them thought I think.

My fone is like my black book and very personal..I had a girl once who checked my fone after "A WARNING", the next time she did it was the last time i saw her..I don't care what people say it's My Fone and nobody's fone...I never bother with anybody's fone.
It's like opening someone's letters. That was and is a big no no. Reading someone's text messages is just the same thing.

I would never do it, and moreover if a partner of mine did it to me, they would no longer be a partner.... It's a gross intrusion of your privacy and a irreversable breach of trust.... If you're that worried that someone's cheating... then confront or leave with you self-respect intact
