This year our government for first time in many years, declared holiday for these Monday and Tuesday trying to revitalize this event in Argentina.
That pops my mind wondering the following:
How significant is Carnival in your country?

leonardo5: Well, here it depends of the region we are talking about.
At the north of this country there is some fuss with it. Something with dance as the kind of Carnivals of Brazil. But here in the core of the country it means just nothing. Only a bunch of days to be out of the work.
It’s significant also in Bolivia, Uruguay and of course…Brazil. I guess everybody have heard about ‘El carnaval de Río de Janeiro’.

seems like you have got it down to me. rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Colleene1024: Obviously we don't have that in the US. What is it and what are you celebrating?

"Carnival is a festive season which occurs immediately before Lent; the main events are usually during February. Carnival typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations, which mark an overturning of daily life."

I think it is mostly celebrated in New Orleans.
I've never seen it celebrated in Michigan.

Over here can be quite crazy. In the Capital city, there are artistic floats going around, like Viareggio in Italy, and in some villages especially in Nadur (Gozo), people were costumes and party all night long. It lasts for 5 days.

We have a carnival in London called the Notting Hill Carnival, as it meanders through the Notting Hill district. It is quite a big event and takes place on the last Sunday and Monday every August.
