Imagine you are on a speeding train doing 100 mph. You happen to be playing a liesurely game of table tennis with a friend hitting the ball back and forth to each other at 10 mph. If the train crashes and is suddenly stopped in it's tracks ( sorry ), at what speed does the ping pong ball hit the wall of the carriage ?

Don't want to mess anything up however we are talking inertia and not gravity.
A fly within a vehicle whether in flight or not still carries it's inertial energy from the forward momentum of the vehicle. If the vehicle stops that energy will be translated into a froward momentum. Thus you have to clean your windshield.
