the usa tv and radio news outlets have absolutely refused to say this word since the japan disaster.....this can only be because of white house orders.....and abc news on sunday made this false and insulting statement- 'japan has never suffered a nuclear disaster.'.........cursed idiots......it is time the networks showed photos of hiroshima and nagasaki after the usa ww
II blasts- to show the effects of radiation........but, of course, obama has heavy personal investments in nuclear energy companies.....

A nuclear disaster is vastly different from a nuclear bomb.

I watch the BBC over here and they have made no reference to it as well.

Japan has some 55 nuclear reactors and of them only 2 have had a problem a third is in trouble as well but remember this is the 5th largest earthquake ever and the Tsunami as well.

This actually show the safety of these plants is pretty good.

But, we do not know how much radiation has leaked yet when we do we can then decide how safe they are.

But at this moment if it was not for the Tsunami they would have been safe.

We need all the facts before we can decide.

As always JMOgrin cheers

It's more than 2 reactors though...last I heard it was 4.

This is causing quite a stir in the US. 24 miles north of NYC, a still operating nuclear power plant was built on multiple fault lines in the 40's. Its design is to only withstand less than a 5.0 earthquake. If that goes off, so does NYC.

I think it was the Tsunami that caused the problem, not the earthquake. It killed the diesel generators which would have pumped the coolant.conversing

Yes, they are designed to withstand earthquakes. Shame they put the emergency generators at ground level...sigh

well i'll tell ya...if it had'nt of been for those two events, there would've been a whole lot more lives lost...and i'm not just talking about american lives...those people were so ate up with propaganda, they believed the americans were eating japanese children...they would throw themselves and there children off of cliffs...and the japanese army was'nt going to give up....they were to be the emperial race...war is hell...a famous quote...and the trueth...the outcomes of war are never pretty...but the alternitive would have been much worse....professor

This is 3 phase:

1) The earthquake. This only causes structural damage and maybe loss of human life.

2) The Tsunami which does the most damage.

3) Nuclear damage which is the longest effect to human civilization.

It may be time to step back and take a deep deep breath.

The bp oil spill was going to kill every fish in the ocean and affect us for centuries.

Thus far, America, Mexico and the islands have survived.

This is an event that could only take place in millennia. It's happening in our lifetimes though, and we must figure out a way to deal with it.

That is somewhat my point. During the oil spill the press/tv was talking about the disaster that would go on forever.

It may get bad, but to panic serves no real purpose.

Sweetheart things are happening and will continue to happen. The continents were one continent at one time. Then they spread apart. Scientific evidence has been showing that it is possible that the continents have spread as far apart as they can and are now coming back together. It took mienias for this to happen. It will take Millenias to go back. Yes things are bad. We just need to keep an opened mind. Calm down and breath hon. hug comfort

Looking for the silver lining; I heard today that Japan is now 8 ft closer to America.

The cost of air travel should drop about 3 cents per person.

I'm sorry pat but this is rubbish, really, Radiation is such a serious matter because , with a half life of thousands of years, it lasts virtually for ever, also because you cant see or hear or detect it by any other natural means it can kill you without you ever knowing the cause. It is accumulative in nature and so are the costs of it's effects, the medical bills for cancer patients worldwide must be staggering and getting bigger all the time.

Even without factoring in all the technical data and human error, natural disasters, etc; it's a pretty safe bet to say that if we have nuclear plants and nuclear bombs, sooner or later ther will be nuclear pollution.

It's no different from saying that if we have roads and cars, bycicles motorcycles etc, sooner or later there will be road accidents.

This is not a legacy I'm happy to be a part of leaving for future generations and I very much hope that the powers that be will wake up and contain the thirst for more and more plutonium.
We've done more than enough damage already and we've gained nothing for it, they don't even seem to be cost effective.

for island nations like japan and britain to be haveing nuclear power, that costs huge amounts, when we can have constant very low cost power from the wave power in the oceans arround us is just crazy in my estimation.

ps
with the weather being what it is there at the moment and the trade winds blowing, who would be stupid enough to believe that this pollution will be localised to japan?

If the western economies had all the money that has had (and is having)to be spent because of the effects of chernobyl we would all be a lot better off.
