I've applied for financial assistance at Open University for a course that starts in October. As part of the application process I need to mail them a certified copy of my passport and that's where my problem lies.
I've made a photocopy of my passport but trying to get it certified is nigh on impossible. The OU gave me a list of people that could certify it from police officers, civil servants to teachers. Today I tried the welfare office, but no one there would sign it, I then tried the Ipswich Constabulary, no luck there, and finally I tried the local GP and again was told they don't certify photocopies of passports frustrated
Oh and at the police station, the police officer I talked to said they wouldn't do it as I don't know any of them personally dunno
Anyway I was just wondering if any one has had this problem before and might be able to give me any advice or ideas.

youd think that the police could have checked their records to see if you had a record, alocal peace commisioner ,do ye have those in Britian would have the power to sign off on such a document, you probally disturbed a card game at the nick.

laugh true
I bet they would say the same thing...that they don't know me, I don't know why they have to know me dunno
They would only be signing to say that they have seen the original document, i.e. my passport.

I don't know, I'll have to check that out.
I think you are probably correct about the card game laugh
It seems odd to me that they wouldn't sign it

I'd write to the Open University and tell them the problems you are having getting someone to certify it enclosing a photocopy of your passport and ask them for their advice.

It does seem odd that police in particular won't certify because i know here whenever i have renewed my passport or driver's licence, i have gone to a police station to have them sign it, there hasn't been any problem and they don't know me either.

But then maybe its because you are not British Citizen confused

Actually it is a british passport, my parents are British so I was able to get one through them, that's how i was able to live in Ireland all those years, if I was on a SA passport i would have needed a work permit.

Thanks for the advice, I will phone them on Monday morning and ask if they have any other options, it would be a huge pity if i was denied a study grant on such a silly reason.
See my above reply regarding british passport

Try your bank. They have rubber stamps too and the manager could do it for you. They may charge you for the privilege though.

Oh that's a great idea i'll definitely try that. This course is almost 800 pounds so if this helps and i get the grant i don't mind them charging me cos i'm sure whatever it is it will be a lot less than 800 pounds laugh
