anniebaby: im fuming to put it nicely
just went to pay a bill that i owed in a garage for work done to pass the nct test, work was done on car b4 the nct and i owed 360 euro so in i toddle 2day to pay it plus cost of having car checked for nct to find out that i now owe them 774 euro
they have charged me for having the car re tested twice tho it was the fault of the garage it failed
charged me for a second hand coil pack that was put in and taken out again as it didnt work and charged me for replacing my old coil pack
plus various other things that im wondering were ever done
went other day to different garage and he had to change spark plugs for me as 2 have NEVER been changed (yes im been charged for them as well)
so my question is do i pay or do i get someone to check car and see wot the hell has been done to it help

It seems you've been ripped off. If you paid for the pre-NCT test and had work done on the car, then if the car failed the test it is normally their responsibility to put things right. I would stand my ground about having to pay twice, but it could become very messy if you have to engage an independent assessor, and then the possibility of getting a solicitor etc. See if you can get a qualified independent mechanical assessor, and if his/her fee is reasonable and they're prepared to negotiate for you it might be worth going that route. IF the assessor can stand over his report, then I'd pay the €360 and tell them to sue you for the balance. I'm surprised they gave you back the car before paying the full amount. If you're a member of the AA it might be worth contacting them too before you do anything.

I take Trealachs advice..pay the 360 and go jump for the rest...gauranteed they wont persue you for the rest...and do not let them bully you!

i wudnt mind when he had the cheek to say to me when i handed him some of the money

All he had to do was fix everything on that list, get it in within the time and it should ve passed. The 1st retest should have been confined to those items if they were able to fully test the car when it went in for original test. He should never have done work without consulting you in the 1st place.

Something simular happened to me years ago... car broke down, AA local man collected it and tried to screw me....... Pay them the first amount and tell them to take you to court for the rest, as they did a rubbish job.....
