RE: I hear the water rates are being introduced soon.

Why not commit your VOTE with this non-political group who are willing to do something about the Property and Water taxes - that's IF you really want to get them abolished. It won't cost you a cent, but the success will save you a lot of money. It's your choice - do something, or keep moaning. Together we can do it!!

RE: Do you believe the earth has been visited by aliens from space

We call them "Politicians" now and I've met many of them.

RE: What's your opinion?

Since life has no value or respect in the US, this move can't surprise anyone. If they can't get you in the womb, then the Government will get you before you get into the coffin. The old, who are vulnerable have the absolute right to be protected and cared for - they funded the country throughout their lifetime. If the sick logic is used, that only those who can currently pay should receive support, then that logic has to apply to those who are paying, and then find themselves out of work - they should be allowed to die without any care. Life is sacred from conception to natural death - it was the old people who built the country, therefore you have an obligation to look after them when they can no longer afford to look after themselves.

RE: Is there any conclusive proof of God?

For those who believe, none is necessary - for those who don't, none is available.

RE: Should a Country run to the aid of another Country at war ?

1939-1945 is the answer to your question - unless you'd have preferred to be speaking German.

RE: Does anyone know the true implications?

There are two issues, which aren't totally related. There are 17 member states within the Euro zone i.e. using the Euro currency. That means 10 member states while in the EU are not directly affected by the Euro currency/debt crises. It is within the Euro zone that the serious fiscal problems would arise, due mainly to the complexities involved, and the 'market's' reaction to a withdrawal - the likelihood being a sudden crash, and the remaining economies being saddled with an unpaid debt, thereby seriously damaging both the Euro and the remaining countries. If a non-member of the Euro zone left the Union, then the impact would be minimal for the EU. That's a synopsis of the situation.

RE: property tax calculator

It's time people woke up to the fact that there is no way out of this tax. All the protests and objections and silly arguments won't make this go away.

If you're working, they will deduct it from your pay.
If you're on welfare, they will deduct it from your welfare payment.
If you're a Pensioner, they will deduct it from your pension.
If you are entitled to a deferral, it will have to be paid before you can sell your home.
If you are a Tenant and refuse to complete the form, they will presume you own the property and will deduct it from your source of income.
If you have a Bank account or Savings Account - they will deduct it from that.

Are you getting the message yet? The tax must be paid for now, like it or not. The Revenue Commissioners will always get the money due - and they can, and will, penalise those who refuse to pay.

There is only one way around this .......

RE: 'What difference does it make,

It's strange, isn't it - she did the opposite of what people expected - she took responsibility - and now they're simply scrounging around nit-picking because they can't handle the truth.

RE: Britain propped up Irish economy with €16.5bn 'back-door' bailout

Nothing like creating a totally false story. British taxpayers don't own RBS or Lloyds Banking Group - therefore British taxpayers did not provide one cent or penny to Ireland, either through the back door, front door, window or chimney. The two banks merely capitalised their own subsidiary bank. doh

RE: City&Council Parking fines

City and County Hall nationwide, has 6 months from the date of the ticket to issue a prosecution for non-payment, if they miss that by a day the fine is quashed - so I don't understand where you're getting your figures from.

IS RTE for real!! how on earth is playing our Anthem a "counter-productive ...measure" in strengthening "the spirit of the Irish pride"? IF it is, then it should be banned from ALL sports occasions including the Olympics. We are governed by idiots and supported by anti-Irish a**hole!!! doh doh frustrated frustrated

RE: God undeniably exists!

"I cannot conceive of a personal God who would directly influence the actions of individuals, or would directly sit in judgment on creatures of his own creation. I cannot do this in spite of the fact that mechanistic causality has, to a certain extent, been placed in doubt by modern science. [He was speaking of Quantum Mechanics and the breaking down of determinism.] My religiosity consists in a humble admiration of the infinitely superior spirit that reveals itself in the little that we, with our weak and transitory understanding, can comprehend of reality. Morality is of the highest importance -- but for us, not for God." - Albert Einstein 'The Human Side', 1954

Amazing how a scientific genius recognises and acknowledges the existence of God.

RE: God undeniably exists!

Since we can not see your brain, we must therefore believe you are stupid.

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein

RE: Are you for or against Quebec separation from Canada?

RE: Falsely Accused??

The distance between the last checkout and the door is sufficient space in which to stop a person leaving with stolen goods. If the person actually leaves the premises and is found to be innocent, then that's a matter of 'false arrest' - not unlawful detention. This girl hadn't passed the last checkout, therefore she was unlawfully detained, which is also illegal, but less serious than 'false arrest'.

RE: Falsely Accused??

That's a matter of choice, but the law is quite clear, that once you pass the last check-out/point of sale, then the Security staff are within their legal rights to search. Allowing them to completely exit the premises just endorses their suspicion that the person had no intention of paying - but they don't have to go that far if they are fully satisfied that the goods are being stolen

RE: Falsely Accused??

You do not have to leave the premises to be charged with theft. Once you pass the LAST check-out point, you can be stopped and searched, and if found to have an item without a receipt the security can hold you until the gardai arrive. It seems that this girl was unjustly held and could bring charges of 'unlawful detention'. There is also the question of "defamation", since she was falsely accused in public of stealing. My advice, is go and see a solicitor - she may have a case against the store.

RE: Men on internet dating sites are socially disfunctional.

Not having received the type of emails she received, it would be hard to comment - but judging by the vast majority of threads on this site I would definitely agree they are dysfunctional to the point of being mentally challenged. If they fall short in creating the right impression by their foul language and attitude, then how do they hope to attract the right female - even they have their limits.

RE: Men on internet dating sites are socially disfunctional.

Having listened to half the interview, because it was so boring I was left with two thoughts; (1) She hadn't a clue what to put into a profile, and didn't even bother reading profiles to get an idea. (2) She has a lot of 'growing up' to do. While she complains about 67 weird responses, it became quite clear that she hasn't got a minimum command of the English language, which isn't surprising for a reporter of that rag The Independent. For a young person who should understand the 'lingo' of the youth, it seems she has a lot to learn.

Just for the record the correct spelling for the word word 'disfunctional' is dysfunctional. It might help one's chances if one had a basic level of literacy.
