here is one tip for men:
always approach a women from behind, women love surprises. Gently swing your arm around her should and smoothly whisper in her ear 'you are hot babe'

I would just get a closer look first if they had no ring on there hand id just go up and say somthing like is it hot today or is that just you .or excuse me miss has any one told you that you are look totaly awsome today most times it gets the lady blushng but most inportantly it starts the conversation

I just walk over and start chatting. No point in opening up and saying anything that could embarrass both of us.
So, a chat and then asking if they want to go onto another bar/club will usually sort out the 'new friends' from the 'potential partners'.

Once I was away for work and fancied a nice meal. So I went to the hotel's restaurant. I was chatting to a guy I liked the look of at the bar. Nothing was too forwards, until I asked him to join me at my table, but it turned out, he was there that night to propose to his girlfriend.
Yah, they had the table next to mine. Cue one quick awkward meal.

That wouldn´t work for me. I like surprises but not from someone I don´t know touching me from behind, nor cornering me.
