ar yes the good old port. It got called that because in the old days in QLD thay used to have porters at the railway station and they would allways take the suitcases hence the name port.

You can get pies and peas in some pie shop but you have to ask. Most pie shope in Qld had a pot of mushie peas on the counter. And it was a given that you had the peas. DAMMM DO I MISS THEM.

Pie foater is a VIC and SA thing.

Tog's are a vic thing.

Some good ones but can anyone think of more?

Here it is called lunchen loaf and in QLD it's devon but more delie's are adopting the name Devon.

sxc666: I remember growing up in Vic and you could always get the pickled onions in jars at the fish and chips shops. I love a good pickled onion. NSW and QLD dont do that.
And in NSW its rare as hens teeth to be able to find a good stick of Kabana they have cabanossi. But QLD are into Kabana too which is good.NSW doesn't really sell flake either they have Hake.Flake is my favorite fish, big in VIC and QLD.I know that not really different names, but just different comparisons Ive come across. Now I'm hungry

Yes and steamed dim sims. You should see the size of the dim sims in Qld. And souflaki yummo.

Have to say Vic has the best fish and chips.

In N.S.W I suppose it is still the name "devon" (cold cut meat)well when I first arrived in W.A. perth in 1977 I asked the deli shop for some devon he didn't know what I meant I pointed to it in the meat section and he says thats "polony" which is what they call it here in W.A. same meat. confused

When we arrived in SA many years ago, from Qld, we went and got fish and chips.

Of course being Queenslanders we expected crumbed fish... they gave is battered mumbling apparently thats the usual way its served there. Queensland you have to ask for battered, as it always comes crumbed.

There is togs/ swimmers/ bathers but I can't remember which belongs in which states anymore. I just wait to see if people look at me weird and ask what I'm talking about. At work, they are actually use to me calling a permanent marker a nikko and even know what I'm talking about now...rolling on the floor laughing

Tassie people seem to like curried scallops- and wait, it gets weirder- in PIES.
Nope, not gonna try that. What a cruel way to treat yummy scallops.
