jbomf: ah united were playing the old style jack charlton way long ball hope for the best it was embarrassing to watch, barca could have won 6 or 7 1, barca stopped playing after 70 mins, and still united could make no headway

It was a bit negative playiing that way alright. Fergie was obviously trying to bypass midfield and get the ball in the final third more. That was never going to work though because neither Rooney or Hernandez are that tall. The reason it worked so well for Jack Charlton's Ireland side was because he had Cascarino and Quinn at his disposal. Both very tall. I thought Fergie would have put five in midfield and put Rooney upfront on his own. I felt that flooding the midfield was our best chance.

DUBLINGUY1973: Ah but the thing is Fergie didn't want to let Pique go. I doubt its a surprise to Fergie that Pique is doing so well for Barcelona now. Ferdinand and Vidic have formed a very good partnership over the years so It was always going to be difficult for Pique to get in the team so he decided to go back to the team he supported as a boy. Giggs has been great in the premiership this season but he looked old and tired last night. Maybe if Fletcher had played in his place, Barcelona would have still won by the same margin but i do think he would have been more effective.
scholes 6 or 7 years ago would have been able for barca, the question i have is a very average united team won the premiership and i think most united fans would agree with that, so how do you bridge the gap between barca and them just curious as to opinions on this

Simple. Spend a lot of money on quality, experienced players. We need at least one central midfielder, one left winger, one defender and a goalkeeper. The only area of the team that doesn't need strengthening is up front. We have Macheda, Welbeck and Diouf coming back from loan spells and even if Berbatov does leave as has been rumoured, i think we will be okay.

I agree about Scholes though. He would have been able for them a few years ago but not now. He's getting on a bit so is not as quick plus he can't make the tackles he used to. Unless United don't spend money in the summer, I can't see Giggs or Scholes playing too many games next season.
