Life, If you can not get guava paste then you might try making your own . I'm shure the locals will know how to do this or a reasonable facimily . Now for the Sweety part, just let it be known that you need some one to test your bread recipies on . I think after a while you will have more than you can handel ! Let's hope so . . . . hug

You can still use your bread machine . Just take the dough out after it is made but before it rises and shape it into a loaf ( or whatever you want ) let it rise and bake it manually . I would also suggest going to the library and getting a book on breadmaking . Once you start it will expand into a lifelong hobby/tallent . You will never be sorry you did !

newboyseeksgirl: I want to make bread without using,a bread making machine. Can I just use a mixer and the shape bread dough to what I need, and if so what's the most reliable mixer.Any help appreciated

when making bread without a bread machine, use a bread mixer tool if you use the mixer. Personally I like the hand method and waiting for the bread to rise three times is wonderful. It takes all day, but well worth the wait for good homemade loaf of bread.

Frankinstien: I keep the yeast in the refrigerator and I have kept it up to a year . I also buy powdered yeast in the 1 lb vacuume packages . I then put it in a screw top jar and put it in the refrig . To proof the yeast just let it rise while in the heavy batter or soft dough stage . That way if it isn't active just add more yeast . The large bags of yeast are avalable at most cash and carrys and they are way cheaper than the suppermarket packets .

What wonderful helpful hints! Love them! Thanks.

Take basic bread ( water, salt, yeast, flower ) add some oatmeal and crushed hazel nuts . You won't belive how good it is . It's my basic bread recapie . . . . angel . . . . . .When you make dinner rolls, use soured milk instead of water or milk . It's less fatning than the sour cream I use to put in it . The soured ( turned milk ) with garlic and onion also makes a great bread or even better hamburger buns . It make a bagle that is out of this world .

Warm yeast ( appromatly body tempature ) will multiply the fastest . You don't need a thermometor just your finger . If it is comfortable for you it is comfortable for the yeast . If it is too cold for you , it is too cold for the yeast . If it is too hot for you then it is too hot for the yeast . Bread is also not an exacting thing . Add as much flower until you get the dough you want . Even if the recipie doesn't turn out as well as expected, it still will be more than good to eat . So eat all of your mistakes and get baking .

I bake all the time. The problem around my house is that most do not like to eat when it is hot. Being in the 100s for the last three weeks around here, makes all appetites disappear. But good yeast bread, now that is something to sink your teeth into! Yum!

do not make just plain bread
make special bread.

1 glass of wheat flour
a pinch of salt
4 cup of milk cup by cup ie mix wheat per cup with hand
then use 2 eggs
then one the dough is formed
knead for ten minutes with melted butter or oil
every one minute with a table spn.
knead it till it become soft
then keep it over night
either in the fridge or in a cool place.
usaully wheat flour after kneading get risen within 4 hours
but i knead the dough at night ie 9.00
and i bake it in the morning say 7 .00
it is up to you
you can knead it and keep it for 4 hours
and then bake it for ten minutes
check
it will look cooked outsie but it is raw inside
then again put it in the oven for five minutes

My dad used to make bread a lot. I thought he was one Hell of a baker. Then I found out that he bought frozen dough. Sometimes he used to roll it out and braid it. The important part of this story would be that frozen dough makes really good bread. It's really soft and fluffy and hot and fresh. Then you put butter on and let it melt and then drizzle honey over it. Nuuuuuuummmmmmmm.
