Encounters? Umm, I assume you mean in their professional capacity? I got a ticket once for an illegal left hand turn (I didn't see the sign) but he was polite about it. If you don't break the law, chances are slim you're going to have such an "encounter" with a police officer.
First man I met here was a motorcycle cop. He is a sargent, but to many years on a bike to make an impression. Hell couldn't even make a dent......JK.....had coffee and dinner a few times. NO he never made and impression, but love the cuffs....
Laffs.....raise your right ...do you swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth......one of the best things about working a beat car was the ability to use discretion.
Only real encounters are at a bbq amongst friends - the only impression I was left with.. never ever run around a K-9. Perpetrators like to run and taste like chicken, K-9's like chicken.

Anything you do say may be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand?

If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. Do you understand?
If you decide to answer questions now without an attorney present you will still have the right to stop answering at any time until you talk to an attorney. Do you understand?
Knowing and understanding your rights as I have explained them to you, are you willing to answer my questions without an attorney present?
Nope, it was recited by Sergeant Joe Friday on Dragnet. And I think on Adam-12 they might have said it a time or two. It's changed somewhat since those days, though.
As I'm sure you are aware, it is based on the 1963 Miranda v. Arizona ruling, wherein "the Supreme Court ruled that the defendant, Ernesto Miranda, was intimidated by the interrogation and that he did not understand his right not to incriminate himself or his right to counsel. On this basis, they overturned his conviction. Miranda was later convicted in a new trial, with witnesses testifying against him and other evidence presented. He served 11 years."
