RE: do you belive in life after death

No, I don't think you're a bad person. If you don't like your situation, though, are you trying to take steps to change it, or are you merely just complaining about it?

If you want change in your life, you have to be willing to put forth some effort to make that change.

RE: THE NEED TO BE RIGHT

If they ARE wrong, then, yes, I see your point. But if they are, indeed, right..well, that's another matter altogether.

There's nothing wrong with being silly and loony I suppose. Nothing wrong with being intelligent either. I am reasonably intelligent, but I sure don't think I'm "superior" to anyone. Intelligence or the lack thereof has little to do with thinking one is superior, in that I've known some people who were dumb as rocks who thought they hung the moon and other extremely intelligent people who were quite knowledgeable about a great deal of factual information who don't think they're superior at all. They're very down-to-earth people.

RE: THE NEED TO BE RIGHT

I know very many people whose opinions I respect and admire greatly and would take them at face value, without argument. If I have my own thoughts on the subject, my own opinions or other sources of facts, I'll sure present them, and, if they present an effective enough argument, I'll probably agree with them.

I still don't get the "need to be right" phrase, though. It just doesn't make sense to me. You either ARE right or you are NOT right, if you're discussing factual type situations.

If discussing opinions, then what your opinion is IS "right," for you, but may not be right for someone else. But what they say is equally "right" for them, is it not?

The only concession to that would be to state, for example, say someone says, "Who sang ____ song?" And you are not quite sure, but you think it might be _____.

So you say, "I'm not sure, but I think it was _____."

The "need" to be right, I suppose, would be to insist that ____ sang it, when ____ actually sang it and you keep arguing that point, even though people have used various ways to show you otherwise.

But if someone were to ask, "Do you believe in _____?," and a discussion ensues, and some do and some don't, and points/counterpoints, questions and answers, back-and-forth discussion continues, people ask specific questions and you give answers and make statements as to why you believe what you believe, and they do the same," how is giving an opinion and a strong defense for what you believe equate to "the need" to be right?

Or am I misinterpreting the intent of that phrase? Again, it wouldn't really make sense, unless that person was, indeed, WRONG.

RE: do you belive in life after death

Refer to my other post that answered this question. Where do you get the idea that, because there is a God, there isn't also supposed to be human suffering? I'm curious why you think that.

RE: THE NEED TO BE RIGHT

I think it all depends on the situation and the content/context of the discussion.

RE: do you belive in life after death

What bothers me is how people think that just because someone's a Christian that that means they are somehow supposed to be perfect. I am a Christian but I am a human being, too. You don't see me going around asking people to justify their defending themselves against unprovoked attacks. Had *I* been the one to launch the attacks, I could see where you'd have reason to do so.

RE: Cute, Hot, or Both...

Hot and cute? Hot is from messed up hormones...but cute? nahhh...

thanks though!

RE: Cute, Hot, or Both...

I have a question...what makes someone who is cute not also be hot, or someone who is hot not also be cute? What about pretty? What about beautiful? What about hot and pretty or hot and beautiful? What about not so hot, not so pretty, but a beautiful person nonetheless?

What about ....

hehehe

RE: Vegans!

Hey, thanks for this. Being at "that" age..I decided to try to incorporate a bit of soy into my diet, but then I had seen another discussion that it might not be so good for you.

I'm beginning to think that, no matter what we eat, drink, do or don't do, we're still all going to die.

wink

RE: Vegans!

ditto chickie! all is not as well as it could be, but could be a lot worse..

IM me again with number, please. I should be working today instead of chatting here..but gotta have priorities, right? LOL

We'll talk soon!

RE: do you belive in life after death

It was given as but one source of an opinion. Since I don't believe in the literal translation of the Bible, (not all of it, anyway), then it wouldn't make sense for me to present anything as factual. In fact, I hadn't even considered whether or not I agreed with it; I was merely presenting it as but one point of view.

I love a good steak...rare! Overcook my beef and me and you are gonna have words. LOL..

RE: Vegans!

Bacon is good, in moderation...toss the biscuit, though.

RE: Vegans!

A lot of vegetarians and, especially, strict vegans are unhealthy..because they don't get enough protein and other vitamins in their diet that are not provided by vegetables alone. Do you take vitamins as well? Do you have a source of protein, for instance? Essential amino acids? Etc.? All of that is important to maintain a healthy balance and well-functioning organs.
