godeas69: So why didn't the russians expose the whole thing as a propaganda coup during the cold war?

Because they couldn't have proven it !!

They know the facts but have always been very clever about it.

Their policy is to give the americans enough rope and they will hang themselves !!

And that's exactly what is happening.

When this space shuttle crew go home next week the Russians have the ISS all to themselves. Never underestimate our Russian friends. They stay very quiet about things but they are still years ahed of Nasa in the so called space race.

I feel sad in a way to see the end of the shuttle !
It is the most advanced aircraft ever deigned, built and flown.
From what I have read it is not easy to fly because of the rocket engines which are very hard to control.
The fact it can go into low earth orbit and return and land on a runway is amazing. Shannon Airport is actually one of it's designated diversion runways in case of problems.
During it's 30 years it has never landed at shannon. crying

I would love to have seen it up close and personal.

Yeah, I agree. Getting almost out of the earths athmosphere and coming down again is a might feat. I worked at Kourou some years ago and I asked an old scientist there who was retiring about going to the Mars (I was really thinking of the moon story and he knew it) through the Van Allen belts. I said I heard that the radiation would fry a human and he agreed. He said the Van Allen belts were the reason no human would go into outer space for a long time. He suggested they might someday be able to 'perturb' the Van Allen belts with a device like HAARP and slip a spacecraft out through it. He thus admitted no human went to the moon without having to admit it.

Would you believe I just came across a photo of me and some friends in a hire car in Florida the other day from a good few years ago. We parked just in front of a shuttle. Did a tour of the Kennedy Space Centre and were allowed on the shuttle but only allowed to view the cockpit from behind glass screens.....absolutely fascinating none the less.

Japan's moon orbiter Selene and Nasa's LRO has gathered tons of new info about the Van Allen radiation belts which start aprox 1,000 miles above the earths surface. They are the sole reason why the Russinas have never tried a moon based mission.
The poor dog that they sent up in the early 60's got fried !!

Even the guys on the ISS have felt the effects of partial radiation. It affects their sight and makes it very hard for them to close their eyes and get to sleep. The ISS is only 114 miles above the earth's surface and yet the space station and their suits don't fully protect them. I have watched tons of interviews with astronauts on that subject.

But of course back in 1969 none of that was problem !!

I don't believe in the conspiracy theories that man didnt land on the moon.It would need for it to be such a large conspiracy that it couldnt hold since 1969. Did you never tell someone something and ask them to keep quiet about it?

Don't forget what happened over 9 Nasa astronauts and the head of safety on the apollo program !!!

They didn't live to tell the tale !!!

I know a bunch of astronauts died on the launch pad in 1967 when the capsule caught fire

That's right Glen E !
It was the main apollo astronaut Gus Grissom and two other apollo astronauts. It was to be a simulated takeoff procedure.
The capsule was filled with pure oxygen and it only took a tiny spark from a switch to ignite it.
Gus Grissom's wife and family have always said that he was murdered because he spoke frequently to the press about what a shambles the whole apollo project was in. He once tied a lemmon to the capsule door and took photos of it.
His family and wife have testified that he had been getting death threats on the phone for weeks leading up to the " accident "

Nasa never let any third party examine the capsule and it is now stored in Area 51.
Nasa refers to the incident as " Apollo 1 " although it happened after apollo 5, 6 and 7.

How can you have a competent third party look at the disaster on the launch pad in the United States when all the expertise in space exploration was concentrated within NASA.

The most competant aviation people in the world are the FAA ( federal aviation authority ) !!
They have never been left anywhere near that capsule.

The FAA have been investigating Nasa for the last 5 years
and plan to publicise it's findings as it has always done with any aviation realted incidents.

I thought that the FAA only investigated airline crashes/near misses and malfunctions

The FAA are involved with anything that flys including rockets.

They even have the final say in the affairs of every other aviation authority in the world. If an airline ignored The FAA recommendations then it would not be allowed to land anywhere in America. Their are a few very small african and Asian airlines that do ignore the FAA but you would travel with them at your own risk. They are the people having all the accidents because of aircraft that are too old and no longer air worthy !

They failed their NCT !!! laugh laugh

Why do you think it was not possible to land a man on the moon in 69.

BannerMan53: Tomorrow sees the final launch of the Space Shuttle on a final mission to the ISS.
The end of 30 years of low earth orbit.

Nasa say they have plans for a moon landing in 2018.
The moon probe Lro was launched this time 2 years ago and has
taken amazing photos of the moon suface and captured very important data about radiation and temperatures etc.

I have never believed that Nasa landed on the moon with the Apollo mission during the Nixon administration.

It is estimated that about 20% od americans don't believe it either. Bill Clinton in his autobiography also said that he did not believe Nasa'a claims.

Any thoughts on this ??

yes the word rhubarb springs to mind
this and kennedys assasination are probably the 2 biggest conspiracy theorys of all time
personally i dont spend a lot of time thinking about either,
a lot of people think the moon landings didnt happen mainly because if ya look closely enough at the left engine exhaust you will see a stalk of rhubarb sticking out of the exhaust
also that" blipper was here" grafiti on the 27th rock to the left of the flag is a dead giveaway, yer probably wondering how i wrote that considering i wasnt even alive at the time,
well thats the thing ,i actually travelled back in time a few minutes ago just to prove a point ,what the point is i dont really know

im hungover ,im rambling now

I hope Blipper is not going into malfunction mode as I don't think that is covered in the manual.
