Envy51Meath, Ireland66 Threads 4 Polls 1,631 PostsI think as we get older we become more aware of losing parts of our culture, i think it is sad that we are losing a big part of Irish mythology and folklore to the likes of JKR Rowlings, Harry Potter. The old stories that were told to people of my age in the school and in the home, that were passed down from generation to generation from the seanchaí. Do you think we have a responsibility as parents,teachers etc., to pass these fables/stories on to the children or should we just let it die out........?

visited everybody else and sat around talking

people usually visit now and ya turn into zombies

You are right, machines can do many things Tease but they can not make us feel emotions ...... there was nothing like sitting around the old aga at home and being told the olds tories by my father and then the fear of having to go to bed in case we heard the cry of the banshee...............

The comedian kevin Mcaleer has a great joke about the first time TV came to rural Ireland. His family eventually got the 'aul box' in the corner of the room. The whole family used to sit around it in the evenings.
His father used to say 'what's on the aul box tonight?' as all the family stared at it. Then he'd say 'there's nothing on the aul box tonight'...eventually one night he said 'we'll have to get rid of that old box, it's useless, we'll get a TV instead'.
