ooookay need advice here. i know a lady from russia, we've been e-mailing for 2 months now. recently she has expressed more than just an e-pal feeling for me. i like her too, but on the other hand i don't want her to get hurt. HELP!!!
Please be advised that this is one of the biggest scam there is in the dating world:
An attractive woman from one of the republics of the former USSR will quickly fall in love with an older--and to put it bluntly not so attractive--,western man. The demands will start slowly. First she will ask you to pay for Internet service then perhaps for English lessons and finally the coup-de-grace: she'll ask you for a relatively large sum of money so that she can get a US visa and fly over to visit you. Remember the US visa is not for sale and it certainly doesn't cost $1,500.00. Caveat Emptor.
I would turn my scam dial way way up. Think about this. A woman from a very different culture wants what from you? You don't really know her at all. I could probably email you for 2 months and by carefully listening to your responses become the women of your dreams.
Do you see French Free Dating, or Danish Free Dating sites advertised? No, you see Russian Free Dating. Why is that? Because many women want to get out by any means necessary. Russia is a difficult place to live in right now while it goes through it's transition from communism to whatever is next. Living conditions can be harsh, crime is rampant, alcoholism is widespread, and the list goes on.
There are lots of wonderful women right in your backyard. Honest there are. You don't need to go very far to meet them in person.
Instead of saying "I don't want her to get hurt" you should have said I don't want to get hurt. Stay friends by all means. Don't lead her one. But the moment money comes into the conversation run like hell.
I'd stick close to home. I just got done talking to a girl couple weeks ago from Nigeria which is one country known for scams. She contacted me thru Yahoo messenger and within the first hour asked if I could send money to help pay for airfare to the US. I kept putting her off and during the whole time we talked, I couldn't get her on mic or cam. The excuse was always, "Uncle doesn't like those on his laptop". After about a week or so of a lot of inconsistancies I decided to see where it would go so I agreed to send her some money. Well, she wanted me to send it to her "uncle" as it would be easier for him to get the money. I got a name and an address which was added to the email I sent to report her.
There are some really nice people out there but there are also the idiots you have to watch out for.
Don't fall victim to a scam. There is alot of evil people wether is in the US or anywhere in the world. These days you have to keep your eyes very open and when you feel that things are getting weird just stop all communication.
i had a feeling of a scam but after 2 months of email she has not asked for anything finacialy. she likes to talk about her aunt and her job. as for being unattractive i know i'm no humphrey bogart or harrison ford but i'm no quassimodo either(lol) thanks for the advise i'll let ya all know when i confront her on this.
Confront is a strong word. I would just continue the friendship and see where it goes. Of course if you were looking for a romance then why did you start in Russia in the first place?
well you good people were right. she started evading the more direct questions. and today she hit me up for money for a ticket to the states. i told her no. i also asked her not to write to me again. i think i'll go away for a while. well thanks again, and goodbye.
