Anyway, back to the topic. Here is a very interesting graph on the debt limit and actual debt. Notice how much slower the debt was growing during the second Clinton term? If Old George Bush didn't get us into two wars and Clintons policies could have been maintained, the debt would be about 7 Trillion today. I can well remember how adament he was about getting our debt down so we wouldn't be spending our GDP on servicing (interest payments) that massive debt. He wasn't shy about taxing the wealthy to make them help us out of debt. Everybody wins when you get out from under a big debt load even the ultra rich.
