BannerMan53: All I know is if you give these thugs an inch they will take a mile !!

If the british government don't put their foot down now they will live to regret it.

I can understand you but what can the cops do? They have no rapport with these youths. Nobody has. They are mostly from one parent families with no role models other than the American gangster rappers. It's nihilism with chaos sauce. It's not a simple situation to solve. Put the boot in and it's likely to get a lot worse. Go softly softly and they may just keep rioting. Tricky situation.

It has taken 40 years of liberal stupidity to get to this point so I don't think it can be solved quickly.

I sincerely hope you are joking! I am a single parent, as are a lot of people on here, and neither of my children would ever be involved in thieving and looting.

If I had stayed with their father things might have been different!!!

frtedslovelygirl: I'm far from being a rich kid meself. As i said though there is far more to these awful happenings than meets the eye.

The same thing happened exactly 25 years ago in the same area so its hardly a once off. The problem clearly wasnt addressed back then, hence the reason the goverment is going to take pressure off themselves through the use of subjective media coverage.

There is a global economic crisis, high unemployment, loss of jobs especially for the young, and yet politicians and bankers in collusion it would seem, make matters worse by budget cuts and unimpressive speeches that do not speak to youth. The lowest rung of society who have had nothing to do with creating the economic mess eventually have enough and explode.

The goverment need to act to stop the freefall of the young generation with nothing to live for and who have no prospects, jobs or money. I'm not condoning these riots whatsoever but trying to gain an understanding of the history and psychology of the issues both underlying and superficial.

A do-gooder!!

I hope you are never a victim of the people you have been defending tonight.

They are scum. There is no excuse. They should be shown the same amount of "respect" that they have shown to other people.

frtedslovelygirl: Whats annoying me more than anything is the very subjective and biased reporting on the riots. A lot of you here are taking this media coverage at face value. If you have a glance through internet media such as you tube you'll find videos of the police beating young people, including one of a young innocent girl being savagely attacked.

The bottom line is; treat people like unwanted scavengers long enough and thats what they're bound to become...very sad situation in london, i just dont know which way to interpret the horror. I honestly wonder what the government have ever done for these young people...i mean they havnt educated them thats for sure! And parenting-what parenting? I also dont honestly believe that the kids are only ones behind these grave actions.....they're acting out as if they've become brainwashed by reading into some crazed conspiracy!

I reckon there's so much more than meets the eye going on here anyway! And you'd be driven demented if you delved deep enough to gain a real understanding on all issues which have led to these riots. I wouldnt even call them riots at this stage...violent revolution attempt yes- not that i'm condoning it!

Sorry to disagree when you are being so humane but I think you are completely wrong. These kids were never taught right from wrong, that's why they are doing what they do. It's nothing to do with unemployment or anything like that, it's to do with lack of discipline in the home and in the schools. Children don't automatically have respect for other's people's rights, it has to be taught.

Exactly!

The "parents" should be punished as well as the kids.

Lol, you mean that nanny that's on TV? Yeah she's good alright!

Very little discipline in schools now, probably because there was too much of it a couple of generations ago.

hi snow wave and yes i mean her but i'm sorry i'm not one of these that thinks is only right to blame the parents, not all the time its not... you could be the most perfect parent in the world but that doesnt mean to say your child will grow up to be the most perfect person in the world, does it???

I suppose, but if you take those kids who are rioting and look at their homes I say you'd find in most cases their 'parents' are hopeless.

sorry but i dont go for that, if your parents are great then you grow with the hope to be their equal, to make them proud as they have you but if they are hopeless then you rise with the hope to be better then them and NOT use it as an excuse to make others their victims because they feel they are one... but rather then deal with something lets take the easy way out' lets find someone to blame ahh yes lets blame the parents... huh.

Funny you should say that Blarney, about half an hour ago I logged on to their website to read it as I heard it being talked about on the radio. I couldn't understand why it wasn't there?

Was he making the point about lack of fathers in these boys' lives?
