A blast from the past got in touch many months ago on fb and we exchanged numbers texted and called on and off since. A bit of flirting and a plutonic trip to the cinema and now six months later I get a message last night saying he'd love to date me and he's been holding back because he's the type of guy who doesn't like going out with somone when he isn't working/doesn't have a car or money to take me out. This came as a bit of a shock as it was at 2am but it was a case of the beer talking but they say "in vino veritas" so what I want to know is;

Would being unemployed stop you from persuing a love interest? lips

It's a shame he feels that way. Perhaps you could always go to each others homes for a meal and DVD. Or take a bus into the countryside for a walk and a picnic. Tell him that material things don't matter and you would like to be his friend. With your support he will have more self-esteem because to phone you at that time of the morning means he had been thinking desperately about it.

Someone being unemployed would not stop me pursuing a relationship but rather than me pay for everything we would do less expensive things such as the suggestions above.

I think the £65 a week Jobseekers Allowance we have here is shocking. I don't know how people manage if that is to cover food, bills, transport, clothes etc. I was on that amount for a week when I left my last job and was so shcoked that my savings would dwindle because in no way is that enough that within a couple of more weeks I had started up on my own freelance.

Being unemployed is a shock to the system and to the pocket and if you like him and he likes you you could make it work. Good luck. Let us know on this thread what happens - well not too much detail of course laugh

Sorry about typos, I am typing in the dark and a bit bleary-eyed as it is early.

Some activities don't cost anything banana angel peace

Seriously though, I don't know if I would appreciate a 2am phone call, but it is something that must have been on his mind. Yep, see him, do things together that are not ridiculously expensive, play scrabble, monoply, cheap wine and home made pizzas, maybe you might be able to help him find a job or do some further training or study? We can all use a friend eh? hug

Good luck Serene
