All combined welfare benefits should be capped at €29k per year irrespective of how many kids a family has, don't breed them if you can't afford to feed and clothe them.

I believe the IMF are quite interested at the moment in the gnerous range of welfare benefits that are available, the IMF are looking for welfare cuts of between €800million-€1.5 billion in Decembers budget.

I totally agree with you, as a widow with 8 kids and have been for 12 years. When my husband was alive we both worked to keep our kids fed and clothed, we didnt have fancy holidays or anything flashy as we had to make do with what we had as we chose to have so many. Sadly when John died I got nothing from the state as he worked in An Post and only for the postal union I really dont know how I would have coped. They paid for his funeral as I wasnt entitled to the death grant. Also because he paid into a penison fund I wasnt entitled to any benifits like going back to school allowances or anything to help me keep my kids in school. I was blessed with the kids I have as they have all done well for themselves and worked part-time to get thru college, I now have a barrister, an architect, an intenisive care nurse, an interior designer, plus the last two are still in college doing business management and zoology. I do think some get it so handy when the real ones dont get what they deserve.....and I dont mean me as I have got by on what I had and still do....there is some that need that little bit more...the system is so unfair.

GalwayGuy35: A couple are claiming nearly €1800 in benefits per week. Something wrong there when that can happen.

I hate when people throw half truths out there and everybody jumps on the bandwagon! It's a family that is receiving 90,000 a year.

I believe there are anumber of carers in the family, there are also disabled Children and old people who need constant care.

GalwayGuy35: Maybe its you that should wake up, there is no doubt that there are cases of people claiming huge benefits and we the taxpayers have every right to comment on it.

Three questions for your glib comment:

a. Why should I wake, up pray tell?
b. As opposed to who else, should be waking up??
c. Who said US the taxpayers shouldn't "...have every right to comment on it...."???

In Britain I believe that in a few years time welfare benefits will be capped at 26,000 stg per year (about 30,000euros) irrespective of how many kids couples have, also there was a proposal last year in the UK to limit child benfit to 3 kids which wasn't enacted. Two years ago there was a family in Co Clare with 6 kids who were able to claim over 45k per year off the state.

I read the article and posted the thread, its not my job to test the accuracy of it. The figures might not be fully right but even at that its is still huge money to be claiming.

collecting the 100% of his dole plus wages,, the second year 75% , the third year 50%
