jono7: thank you for the information. as stated, i found that on line. i have not been to Tibet, only as close as Nepal. are you going to address any of the OP's statements? would be interested to see your views.

short answer, NO, because my views have already been lambasted by some, I have no wish to get into another slanging match. My understanding of the situation is simple, both sides are wrong, China, for not handling it well and going in like a bull in a china shop (No pun intended) and the Tibetans for allowing the ruling class (DL and his monks, not china) to control and manipulate them by force and fear.
The average man in the street wants china to continue to help and support Tibet, continue to build hospitals, schools etc and rebuild their temples, China is a Buddhist country, those who think china is trying to destroy Buddhism in Tibet are just showing their lack of knowledge and that they follow western media like sheep. However, Chinese government will not stand for any group who try to create disturbance and shake the foundation of their socialistic regime, which is why they are now fighting with the islams in North west China, as this region is causing a major upset between three religions. Chinese government has a hard job looking after the second largest population in the world, they need unrest like a hole in the head. More important is finding ways to keep industry going and to provide enough food for everyone.
