Rocksmith: Thanks jono great advise!

It's for work, i'm heading out to a mine site about 3 hours east of Jakarta. It should take about a week. (or two )

Fishing in Bali when the work is done!

Three hours from Jakarta (to the east) .. hhmm... where would that be..? confused

Anyway, if you like white water rafting during your stay in Bali, try to find a rafter named JHONY (his nickname) in Ayung River Rafting Company. He is a popular crazy rafter (crazy in a good sense).. I bet your rafting will be fun and unforgettable .. thumbs up

If you still have time, try to go to Lombok.. close to Bali. You can find the best quality of pearl there.. cheering

Rocksmith: I've never been there... going in a few weeks!

Anyone been there?

I'd like to hear your comments!

Going to an “out of the ordinary” place and eating at Mac Donalds????
No way!

I have never been to Jakarta but I have been to other places rather atypical and I have tried street food and I have had not problems, not even in Mexico grin

Just use your common sense when choosing the places for having your meals.

There is always a risk to try street food but worth to take it.

I tend to agree with you L/D.

Trying "real" local foods is all part of the experience i think.

But as you say "common sense"

Rocksmith: Good question felix.

Those hot dog vendors look pretty dodgy to me!

Yes, they do look dodgy, though I would be more worried about the nitrates and other toxic chemicals in their sausages made of lips, arseholes and cancerous tumours.

No offence intended, but as a Mexican you would have developed a much greater tolerance for dodgy food and water than someone who lived in a First World country.
Ever noticed what happens to Americans when they visit Mexico? I believe that it is called Montezuma's revenge.
Here we call it Bali belly, or Deli belly, or the Thai trots.

“First world countries” does not mean that all is pinkish -perfect- life.

In the first world countries there are poor people and bad places like bad restaurants.

Tell me that in your country you have not one bad restaurant or none street selling food that is bad.

Have you ever been to Mexico Carl?

Hey Rock!! first I, like some others are a bit envious but also happy for you going to Jakarta. I have talked with some that live there and also some that visited, from what I could summize and of course it depends on your contacts is first of all have fun, secondly I was told by my friend that lives there that as far as many foods prepared there you should be a bit cautious, I know that some that did not, ended up having a rough time though not deadly sick, they still said they were not so careful and had some intestinal distress. Again, I don't know if you are staying with someone or at a hotel but if you get the chance to have someone fix you a meal like I already saw you have some offers... that would be a pretty cool way to go. I sure hope you follow up and share your experience when you return. I also know that the air quality there is not so good and even people that live there in the city will wear a facemask. I know that when I was going through some fotos I asked about that and it is not uncommon to be prepared. WOW!!! have a great time and be safe.
All the Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever been to Mexico Carl?

True, but you can usually drink the tap water in the West without risking amoebic dysentery.
I have been to some places, mainly courtesy of the army, but Mexico has not been one of them. Nothing there to interest me.
