Hi lifes wave

Well if you want to eat in Jakarta (street) check the place first, most of its ok as long as it clean. Much of food at street more delicious than restaurant.
Try Nasi Goreng Gila in Jaksa area, near of that also Soto Ayam (chicken Soto) beside Sarinah Mall & still much more.

Tips: Try to avoid during of lunch time cos will be so rush, you also can take it away. And careful with the thief

Hope you'll enjoy Jakarta handshake

I used to live in Jakarta.. Best to have a guide.. which you do.
And if you can eat at Jack in the Box or McDonalds with no problem, then I'm sure you'll be fine in JK. ;)

Rocksmith: I've never been there... going in a few weeks!

Anyone been there?

I'd like to hear your comments!

mostly all the street foods are safe, as Lavina says, you must check the place. Where will you stay during in Jakarta btw ?

Many street foods in Jaksa Street or nearby, e.g : satay, gado-gado, etc

There is a traditional local restaurant -- here we called 'warteg' -- in Jalan Jaksa/near Morrisey Hotel. And next to the Warteg there is a small cafe. Lots of backpackers or sometimes foreigners have lunch in this Warteg. This Warteg serve a variety of local foods, the place is quite clean. But, this place is very small.

Btw...pra-welcome to Jakara...

Rock I think it depends on how you eat normally, by that I mean if you already experiment with your eating habits and try different, exotic 'unhomogenised' food, you're halfway there.

People who have bland diets seem to fare the worst in these situations.

My experience in countries such as Indonesia is to eat at stalls which are busy with customers, that means there is a fast turnover and less chance of food spoiling in the heat prior to cooking.

Never, ever eat raw vegetables, salads etc, avoid ice in your drinks and use bottled water only, including when brushing your teeth thumbs up

Best restaurants..?? Hmmm... confused
Well I am not so sure about the best one as I don't dine out very often. I cook my own food .. grin But I think you can try some in here:

1. The Shawn's Seafood & Bistro (Jl. Pluit Kencana Raya No. 39 Jakarta Utara)
2. Cahaya Kota (Jl. KH. Wahid Hasyim No. 80 Jakarta Pusat)
3. Ayam Taliwang (Jl. KH. Ahmad Dahlan No, 27 Jakarta Selatan)
4. Outback Steak House (Jl. Sudirman 9th Jakarta Selatan)

And I am sure you can find other good restaurants in:
1 Sheraton Media Hotel & Towers (Jl. Gunung Sahari Raya No. 3 jakarta),
2. Grand Indonesia (Jl. MH Thamrin Jakarta)
3. Plaza Senayan (Jl. Asia Afrika Jakarta Selatan)
4. Pondok Indah Mall (Jakarta Selatan)

If you are interested in Padang Food, there are many Sederhana Restaurants in Jakarta.

Now for site seeing in Jakarta.. I think Old Jakarta Kota is a good place to start with.. and then you can go to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, where you can see miniature Indonesia. You can go to Bogor too.. but I don't think you'll have enough time.

In Bali, I think your friend knows it better.. wink

Fishing trip..?? I have never done that, so I have no suggestion.. sad flower

What else.. hhmm..? confused
