DUBLINGUY1973: I don't think it was discraceful either. It would be if the balliffs beat them up but they didn't. They physically removed them from the house but it was obvious that they weren't going to leave the house of their own free will. They said that they tried to reason with the banks the day before they were evicted but to be fair they had two years to reason with the banks. They were business people who speculated on property. They knew the risks when they agreed to use their house as collateral. They obviously dramatised it for the cameras. They have 18 other properties though so they are hardly stuck for a few bob. I have some sympathy for them losing their home but they are in a far better position than a lot of people and like i said, they knew the risks when they used their family as collateral.

thumbs up thanks for the succinct synopsis. kiss

I haven't read all the comments on this thread, I'm bored, but not that bored, so apologies in advance if I replicate something that has already been posted.

According to news reports this evening, this couple are now staying in a tent, outside the house they were evicted from.

Why can they not move into one of the other 21 properties they own?

They let one of these properties, a 4 bed house, to their son and his wife. Could they not stay in one of their 3 spare bedrooms?

They were served with 2 years notice of the eviction. If they are so desperate to hold onto their "family home" why not sell off some of their other properties, even at a loss, they would have raised funds to make the repayments necessary.

The blatant manipulation of the media by this couple will only harm, and belittle, the genuinely impoverished homeowners that exist all over this country

Ah but you see if they moved from their tent then they wouldn't be getting media coverage anymore. It strikes me as rather odd as well that they had all these concerned neighbours flocking around them ("you're abueeesing this elderly gentleman") during the eviction and yet noone seems to be able to give them a room?
Now i don't know the size of the houses in Killiney but I would imagine they would have enough space for these "poor people".
